[OT] Debug strange network trouble...
Local branch site, not so well built (mostly non-managed switches).
By some weeks, suddenly, the network suffer some strange trouble: the
most suffering is samba (samba3 in NT mode, so SMB1): shares desappear,
if users try to logon when network is in trouble, they get errors like
'no domain controller available'.
Other traffic (eg, an internal HTTP) get slooooowww...

problem with the "arp" command (using the pub flag)
...MP eth0
In this situation it works fine. Host A replies to the ARP Request from
host C for host IP_B, allowing host C and B to exchange IP packets.
___PROBLEM___
The problems is that, sometimes, the second line (the one with the P
Flag in the "arp -n" output) desappears for some time and then appears
again... !!?
Note.
Do you know if it is normal or if it could be a bug in "arp"?
I didn''t verify if, when the second line is not present, the host A
continues to answer to ARP Request for 192.168.30.130 on eth0.
In other words I didn''t v...

Dual ethernet server on the same LAN
...ich
already has netbios name "drone" associated with it.
Without "netbios aliases=probe" nmblookup command can't find any
information about netbios name "probe".
I tried to make the following permanent mapping: netbios name <--> IP in
wins.dat file but it desappears after a few seconds.
Does anyone has any idea how I or samba could announce it's Netbios name
which is on the second LAN card ?
10x in advance
Best regards

PAM Offline Authentication in Ubuntu 22.04...
I'm trying to enable offline auth in a Ubuntu 22.04 box, following:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/PAM_Offline_Authentication
using standard ubuntu samba package (4.15.13+dfsg-0ubuntu1.1).
I've enabled workaround 'lock directory = /var/cache/samba'.
Still does not work, and behave very badly with no conectivity or bad
connectivity (wireless): sometime the

Thunderbird, CSC and files/folder...
[ I don't think it is a samba trouble, but indeed some clue... ]
A user of mine have a rather complex Thunderbird local folder email
archive, in a network folder (P:\Mail), with CSC enabled (it is a
portable system).
Rather frequently (at least once a week) in the share a 'disk folder' (a
directory) with the same name of the 'file' of the email folder get created.

Winbind, cached logons and 'user persistency'...
I've noted that some weeks ago, but i was upgrading all my PVE cluster
so i've considered it benevolent.
Yesterday i've updated my main switch, disconnecting for a brief lag of
time all my ''infrastructutes''.
My SMTP server (exim) start to complain about 'unroutable addresses':

[i''m not clearly a network guru, but i''ve some knowledge... anyway i
think i''ve arrived to my ``end point'''' here. Probably i''ve also done
some big mistake, so please sorry me.]
I''ve setup in a local branch of my office two servers, say radagast

externip nat audio sip trunk issue problem
Hi all,
I've tried search this problem on the list... no luck...
The case is:
without externip/localnet config on sip.conf [general] my SIP trunk works,
but with no audio NAT problem (asterisk sends the private 192 address to
the outside...)
when I configure externip/localnet correctly my SIP trunk simply disappear!
Checking the signalling with tcpdump shows me that Im sending the

[OT?] Group Policy, drive maps and Cliend Site Caching...
Sorry for that email, but i'm really confused about the subject.
Starting point: in current configuration (Samba, NT mode) some portable
system have CSC enabled, and when go to another site... is another
site, eg does not fined the domain, so simply CSC 'work'' as expected.
Now that i'm moving computer to the new domain, that is the same domain
across all sites, i'm not

No, still glitches for exim/winbind...
No, i don't think this is a configuration error by mine, and still
seems that ''something'' in winbind does not work properly, or at least
in respect to exim.
This late evening i've rebooted all my servers in a site (2DM, 2DC; DM
samba 4.8, DC samba 4.5).
I've firstly rebooted the DM (where one of these is the mail server),
after that, and after verify that all work

Thunderbird, CSC and files/folder...
Hi,
In my experience Thunderbird does not work on a directory that has
CSC/offline files in use without major problems.
We use shares that have no offline caching in use for Thunderbird
profiles, and those work only when the user is online.
Whent that is not an option: put your profile on %localappdata% with no
synchronization at all. As long as you access mail only via imap (no
pop3) and you

Many improvements and a few problems
...y I saw on the net were very slow motion
usually. These high-motion videos were especially hard for Theora and it
quickly introduced unacceptable artifacts.
Now the encoder reacts better, and much better in two-pass. Just used
ffmpef2theora nightly. Blockiness even at quite low bitrates almost
desappears or gets to an acceptable level. Even tried a 720p50 HD video
(I thought Theora would be very bad at that) and the result was quite
good at around 9 Mb/s.
Now a couple possible problems:
1) One-pass can still improve I think, with a better and quicker
adaptation to higher motion or detail parts...
