yet another stereo related question
...bps .OGG using lossless stereo, or does this "selectable by the user" mean only that I can choose the stereo mode indirectly by choosing an appropriate bitrate? An option like that would be pretty nice, because this way I could test whether I am able to hear and learn more about fidelity degrations made by the lossy stereo modes by comparing them to each other and the lossless mode. I doubt that I will be able to distinct between the 'regular' degration and stereo-only problems, which is why I don't want to make comparisons with the original .WAVs at this point. (This would lead...

High count of smb processes
...alled "workgroup"). The problem is: we see Samba servers which spawn a lot of smb processes. The count goes up to about 300 processes without one share being used. Applications supporters are not really happy with this count of smb processes because they see a significant performance degration. Btw: Clients can connect fine. I have found the following information in the logfiles: 2003/01/22 17:32:25, 2] smbd/reply.c:reply_special(97) netbios connect: name1=D0390021 name2=K4080140 [2003/01/22 17:32:25, 2] smbd/server.c:main(746) Changed root to / [2003/01/22 17:32:25, 3] smbd...

Preloading results in Ajax App
Hello Rails lovers! I have a few general discussions that I have yet to find terribly active. Perhaps all of the people busy on this front are...uh...busy on this front. So! Ajax-only apps. No degration. Yes! Forget about degradation for a moment. Not willing to? Ok, well...this question is for those who are willing... Imagine developing an app that is one page - all actions render partials on this page, probably with rjs. Already done it? Great, these questions are for you then: 1. Browser p...

YA-2496
Hi. I've been browsing the archive on this topic and only found a few notes, all dating from a year ago (almost too precisely :) ) -- hope I haven't skipped the mails on that matter, sorry if I did. <p>Basically, I will get in the next few months a MOTU 896, that have 8 i/os in 24/96. I do pro sound recording, so it's more or less my business to have such a piece. Of

what quality ?
hi, what quality is recommended to encode to for cd quality? i mean, for mp3, i used to encode to 128kb/s ( maybe it's a bit low.. ).. so what quality ( or bitrate ) do you recommend? thanks, gabor p.s: i'm sure this queston was asked here at least 1000x but it's hard to search for 'bitrate' here :-) <p><p><p>--- >8 ---- List archives:

Ogg Vorbis and streaming
Hi. I'd like to ask a little about where Ogg stands today when it comes to streaming audio. The VBR has been the main argument in the incompatibility for streaming but has this changed somehow or will it? Is there something else besides quick and large scaled bandwith usage variations and the difficulty of buffering, that could cause problems? CBR could be used but some people say that it

Mirror of SAN Boxes with ZFS ? (split site mirror)
Hello, I''m thinking about a setup that looks like this: - 2 headnodes with FC connectivity (OpenSolaris) - 2 backend FC srtorages (Disk Shelves with RAID Controllers presenting a huge 15 TB RAID5) - 2 datacenters (distance 1 km with dark fibre) - one headnode and one storage in each data center (Sorry for this ascii art :) ( Data Center 1) <--1km--> (Data
