Polycom getting DCHP address from wrong VLAN
Hello,
I have been tearing my hair out on this issue for 2 days, any help
would be appreciated.
We have a normal network and a Cisco SGE2010P switch - a 48 port PoE switch
There are two VLANs, 1(data) & 50(VoIP). When Polycoms are connected
to the switch with VLAN 50 hard coded in the config they grab a DHCP
address from VLAN 1, the PVID for the switch port.
The ports have membership in

OT Provisioning http-server-enabled devices (Was: Siemens Gigaset DECT base provisioning)
hello,
I would to define and unattended process to configure devices which are
http-server-enabled, use DHCP but do not use TFTP-DCHP to configure
themselves during boot.
Has anyone worked on such subject ?
I was thinking of something like :
populating configuration file from device web pages (rendering this as
generic and flexible as possible)
writing a script which reads this file and set each parameter using http

stuff happily; one nuance that bothers me is that, for instance, my
Fedora6 (x64) (kernel 2.6.22), (and noticed also in some other distros

the hostname I pass it through the DCHP server.

...efined Options" in the "DHCP Standard Options". That's as close as I get to the "site-option-space" as I can.. (I think)
I've used wireshark to monitor the dhcp request and response, and I don't get the options 208-211.
Does anyone know how to make a Microsoft DCHP send these options even if the dhcp client does not request it? It's my understanding that that the way it sould work, since it's the network card and not pxelinux that does the dhcp request.

Setting up Polycom IP 500 with *
I am in the process of setting up an * system using Polycom IP 500's.
I don't want to spend time setting a ftp server for application and
configuration files at the moment, just want to use the web interface
to the Polycoms. DCHP works OK and IP is obtained correctly.
Polycom fails to load .cfg file and holts. I have read the 143 page
admin user guide a couple of times...and I missing somthing?

Polycom IP 600 DHCP problem
I've got a Polycom IP 600 that doesn't want to DHCP. It DHCPDISCOVERs,
there's a DHCPOFFER, it DHCPREQUESTs and a DCHPACK is returned, but 3
seconds later it repeats the process and never boots. The phone works fine
with a static IP, and the DCHP setup works ok for an IP 500. I updated to
bootrom 2.6.2 and sip firmware 1.5.2 which didn't help. Any suggestions?

When to use WINS server in a home network?
Hi. All, I've been reading the docs but I'm not too sure when I should run a WINS server.
Just to confirm, I only need a WINS server if I have more than one workgroup? or more than one subnet?
Otherwise the DNS server should be sufficient, right? (My router uses static dchp to keep track of hostnames for each machine.)
My home network:
* User-level security
* 3 linux boxes with 2 windows machines -- the 3 linux boxes file sharing with samba
* All machines in one workgroup
* All machines in one subnet

Macbook DHCP issue.
...l since April. The other day it just stopped working. The connection comes up and everything seems fine but I can't DHCP a correct address.
I followed the old setup instructions that were located here: http://www.tinc-vpn.org/examples/macbook-install/ They seem to be gone now.
When I try and DCHP an address now all I get is the 169.254.219.* address that is OSX's confusing way of telling you that you didn't get a real address.
I've poked around at everything I can think of and can't figure it out. Running linux box to linux box works just fine and DHCPs an address just fin...

Lingering dhclient issue
I recently reconfigured some CentOS 4.3 systems that were using DHCP
to use static IP addresses. At the same time, the systems were moved
to a new VLAN. Here is the approximate sequence of events that took
place:
1. ifdown eth0
2. edit /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ifcfg-eth0 with static IP
address
3. wait for network folks to reconfigure switch
4. ifup eth0

Samba as Active Directory - Linux Client doesn't update DNS
...AD and Bind9 as DNS
Windows and Linux Clients:
DHCP from Router. The router is configured to annouce the Raspberry as DNS server.
I configure it as described at: https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Setting_up_Samba_as_an_Active_Directory_Domain_Controller
Standard behavior of the router is to put all DCHP clients into it's own domain with hostname.router. This is working fine.
The samba AD also provides DNS service for the domain .ad
DNS updates, Kerberos etc. is working fine. When a windows client joins the domain, hostname.ad is added to bind. The router will add it with hostname.router. Tha...

Our dchp is a pfsense and the settings are basic.
Any other thing that I can do for test?

CentOS 6 dhcpd custom log issues
...and that apparently worked fine. I know the circuit-id is included in the
ACK packet (tcpdump is your friend), but even on the check to log for only
the dhcp message type 5 isn't working.
Are the newer dhcpd versions different syntactically? What's the correct
method for logging on the DCHP Message type with the most recent C6
version? (dhcp-4.1.1-53.P1.el6.centos.x86_64)
Any ideas?

My assumtion was that PXE booting works like this:
1 - ROM FW broadcasts a DCHP request
2 - ROM Receives a reply 'filename=ipxe.efi'
3 - ROM Loads 'ipxe.efi' through tftp
4 - ROM invokes the downloaded image
5 - iPXE starts and broadcasts a DHCP request
6 - iPXE receives the reply 'filename=uri:syslinux.efi'
7 - iPXE loads syslinux.efi from supplied URI...

If your pfsense thing is just providing dhcp info to clients and they
are supposed to update their own records, then it isn't a dhcp problem.

RE: DHCPd Config or HOW-TO on DNS + DHCP + SQUID +Firewall + Router
I thought I'd share this with you guys:-
Been working/testing on the DEV release of SME7a3 based on CenTOS (on
VMWARE), see contribs.org. Pretty neat I must say, most daemons (DNS,
DCHP, SMB-PDC, LDAP, IMAP, POP, Web Admin) are preconfigured. I've got
phpGroupware, WebERP, KnowledgeTree + other running on the same box
(VMWARE).
I've always had a challenge with manually configuring listeners etc
and this has saved me hours/days on the Development I'm working on.'...

DNS Registration
I have a few Samba 3.0.14a servers nicely running with ADS security and
winbind on Debian Sarge. The one problem I seem to have is their DNS
registration with our WIN2K3 name servers that I have no access to. I
see that most WIN2K/XP/03 register automatically (DDNS) or manually with
the command ipconfig /registerdns. I can probably ask for records to be
manually entered but I thought I would

Stream pushing ?
Hi !
Is there any way to have stream pushing from an icecast server to another ?
Of course, it can be easily done with a third party app but could be useful if
embedded in the server part...
Thx,
