Current hardware requirements for decoding? (skipping problem)
...ut skipping. I've tried encoding .wav
files and downloading .ogg files from www.vorbis.com and playing them on
Winamp with Windows and XMMS and ogg123 on Linux and I always get skipping
problems. However, .mp3 files play flawlessly on Winamp and XMMS (though not
on mpg123 for some reason).

Is there an oggenc low bit rate HOWTO?
...haps around 16-24 kbps). For now, the voice
recorder is tied to a laptop - in the future hopefully I can get
smaller hardware for that function (like the Ripflash for mp3). Any
advice on resampling rates, low pass filter cutoffs, or any other
advanced oggenc tricks would be very welcome.
Thanks Dara Parsavand
(For very low bit rates, I did listen to the speex samples, but these
are too distorted for my tastes. Since I don't care about low latency
encoding, and I'm not that tight on the bitrate constraints - I'd
rather use oggenc.)

updating columns using other column as reference
Dear R-gurus,
Just supose I have a dara.frame that looks like
myDF<-read.table(stdin(),head=T,sep=",")

3,spC,2,1,5,6
4,spC,5,4,3,2
5,spD,1,2,3,4
6,spE,2,4,3,1
I need to update the columns k1-k4 with the namesp, but
considering the math between Kx and codID.

add "select" to subset docs (PR#6710)
Full_Name: ivo welch
Version: current
OS: linux
Submission from: (NULL) (130.132.33.212)
* In the ?subset page, please add
subset( dataframe, select= c(-column1,-column2) )
returns a dara frame that is without columns 1 and 2 .
* Also, in ?lm, it would be nice to add a few more words about how to get a
residuals vector of the same length as the variable vectors, even if there are
NAs. (I know how to do this in one way, but this may not be the right
recommended way.)
I figure that...

Compiling question about the nightly CVS download
.../local/man and /usr/local/lib all
remain empty (but the README says they will be populated). I'm sure I'm
doing something obviously wrong, anyone care to guess what it is? Is
there another source of info besides the README that I should be
looking at for compilation instructions?
Thanks - Dara (who for too long depended on a SysAdmin for everything
but Matlab scripts)

multiple daemons on the same port
I thought if a daemon is already running on the default port, I
thought the additional ones started on the same port will result in an
exit with error, but somehow it seems to work just fine. If I kill the
first process, the second process seems to take control of the port.
As far as I know you can't have two processes binding to the same
port, so does that mean the second process is just

hanging problem on cygwin
Hello,
I am using the latest rsync version that is available as of today,
which is 2.6.5, that I compiled from the src downloaded from rsync
website (my understanding is that the latest version includes all the
patches that were required for cygwin). Both the source and target
systems are Windows 2000 server, and I am trying to sync over ssh
(through inetd).
I am frequently facing problem with

p.s. it was libao, libogg, and libvorbis in the beta, but the CVS drops
the lib from these names - which is preferred?

how to use writeFASTA in modality "append"
It looks like Biostrings function "writeFASTA" overwrites the output file at each run.
It seems it does not support the "append" parameter.
I have to generate one big file gathering a miRNA identifier and relative sequence followd by a variable number of dara records pertaining such a miRNA target genes transcription.
Each record is made up of a 3'utr identifier <hgnc_id>.<ensembl_id>.<transript_id>
followed by the relative 3'UTR sequence.
I hoped I could use writeFASTA but it does not allow me to append sequences to the s...

Contingency table in R
Hi,
I have a table in R with data I needed and need to create a contingency table out of it. The table I have so far looks like this:

Dangerous 15 12
Healthy 52 9
None 134 24
Unhealthy 72 23
These are the error messages that I keep getting whenever I try to get a contingency table. I'm not sure why it won't work

The system reboots immediately.

issues with SSOAP when wsdl has ComplexTypes
I recently started trying R and SSOAP and was able to successfully try a "hello
world" service. I am now trying to get a more complicated interface to work with
SSOAP and so far failed miserably at that and so need any help I can
get from here.
The service I am attaching is a prototype for a full service that would
take information to identify a data source and a query to run and

help with SSOAP (can't find working examples)
First of all, let me confess that I am a newbie to R and don't know
much about the language or the environment. We have a need for
plugging in R in our production runtime and need the ability to pull
data out of our existing services. I am trying to see if I can take
advantage of SSOAP such that we can expose the data via webservices
and use SSOAP to call into them. Our runtime is mostly
