Re: about cubase and asio...
Firstly, I want to thank you for finding some way for Cubase Studio 4.1.2 to work with Wine. I currently own Cubase 4 and it is the only thing keeping me from moving to Ubuntu. If I can get Cubase 4.5.2 to work with my Audiophile 2496 on Ubuntu (and it work well), I can finally ditch Vista. Reulle, since you've tested Cubase Studio 4.1.2 successfully,...

Running Cubase with wine - HOW?
...d still nothing works! I do not want to go through all that reading and learning about programming, compiling programs and so on - I do not want to know all that stuff. I just want to run some Windows-based programs on Linux. So could someone simply explain me step-by-step what to do? I want to run Cubase or at least Cakewalk Sonar with Addictive Drums (and EzDrummer). Plus Guitar Pro 5 would be good too. I have recently tried GOS and Slax. GOS managed to launch Foobar. Cubase SX 2 and SX3 setup managed to be launched, but SX3 did not install (some problems during driver installation maybe) and SX2...

Is This Really Legal?
...nse or I can buy and really honking mega awesome computer without a Windows License. Naturally, I would rather buy a "honking mega awesome computer" instaed of a "nice computer", but I do have a problem... I have a couple of programs that need MS Windows, these programs are: 1) Cubase Studio 5 2) Emulator X 3) Power Director 7 Unfortunatley, Steinberg, Cyberlink and Creative Labs aren't particularly interested in offereing Linux versions of their software. This means I am stuck getting a Windows License and running possibly inferior software on my computer (MS Windows)....

A possible use for multichannel ogg files!
...ogg formatted file. Of course, only a single file would be needed to effect quite a number of "musician minus one" setups from a single recorded source! What we are not wanting in this "multichannel" format is Dolby 5.1, other ambisonic formats etc ... but a simple mix as per cubase, sonar, logic, protools etc etc but obiating the need for this expensive software! Anyone had similar thoughts??? Any views, for or against? We have a wonderful format here, we need to use it! If I am totally wrong, tell me! MIDI and friends
Hi, I really appreciate the good work put into wine. And indeed I have some questions: How sophisticated (if at all) is alsa midi support from within wine-hosted sound applications? Think of Cubase/Fruityloops plus some Softsynths played and recorded by an external keyboard. Alsa works very well with low latency etc. on my current debian installation. How thin/thick is the wine sound emulation layer? Any experiences/suggestions with wine + sound/midi are welcome. Thanks, Andreas -- NEU F...

frame_info_add
Hi, I have this idea: It can be useful to have for each frame two variables stored in bitstream that will hold information about starting and ending position of \"valid\" samples in the frame. With these additional information it will be possible to do simple editing (like cutting or concatenating two streams) without decompressing/recompressing at sample-granularity. Simple example

PESQ calculated MoS-Values for Speex
...t answer Lloyd. I would rate mode4 of speex with 4 and mode2 with 4. (MoS) I can't hear a huge difference between both, except that mode4 files have more bass-parts (I guess because they are wideband encoded). I recorded the files on a RME RayDat with 48kHz per second and sampled it down with cubase (at the export). I'm not sure if this can make the difference, but I will try to record it with a samplerate of 16khz (I'm not sure if my RayDat even supports this?!) No, I don't hear unusual frequencies (though it's sounding really weird). Btw, I'm listening with EV Zx1-90'...

PESQ calculated MoS-Values for Speex
...png (Speex.org Website). The fact, that a bitrate of like 25kbit/s results in a score of nearly 4,5 is confusing me like hell. (compared to my results) First thing I tried was just "speexenc origfile.wav destfile.spx", but the result did not satisfy me. The used wavefiles are created in Cubase5.1, 16bit and 16kHz. Im using 1.2rc1, compiled with cygwin, running on Windows 8. The 1.2beta3 kept crashing on Win8 and Win7 using the same audiofiles. I also tried using 1.0.5, but the (MoS)results were not satisfying. I have no clue why the score is at such a low level (compared to the graphic...
