Macs Pro have Intel processors in them--which *can* run Wine. If you want one cheap (relatively speaking), look for a 2006 model. Darwine used to include an x86 emulator (based on QEMU) so that PPC Macs could run x86 Windows apps. That project has since been abandoned. Unless you're interested in working on it, *you have to have an Intel CPU in your Mac to run Wine*. Chip

There was an effort to 'make' this happen, but was abandoned a long time ago when Apple embraced Intel processors. Sadly, there is not much we can do for PowerPC users these days. Darwine has been abandonware for over two years. James McKenzie

[Wine] Re: ppc powermac G5 wine to open Cubase.exe
oh wow I wondered why everywhere else I looked ppc macs were always gettin shot down....Can I change it to Intel somehow? im not much of a comp person...

Everyone is upgrading to Intel-based Macs.I think that some one should make Wine for mac. I know there is things like Crossover and all of that stuff, but im talking exactly like the Linux versions.

I work with one of the developers of a Wine product and he had taken up this project and after determining there was little or no demand, dropped it. If you want to, you to can pick up the project and start working on it where they left off. Wine 0.9.27 is about four years or more old and that was the last version the project got to work with any reasonable level of success. Yes, Wine should still build on the PowerPC platform and it will run. However, to run x86 programs on it, you need an x86 processor emulator. Note the comment about byte-swapping. This is one of the reasons the project was abandoned. James McKenzie
