loading shared libraries at startup
Dear people, I compiled a bit of C code into a shared library cftpR.so, and load it into R at runtime using > dyn.load("cftpR.so") This works fine, however when I put .First <- function() { dyn.load("/home/faheem/research/cftp/cftpR.so") } (using absolute path names; also tried with just dyn.load("cftpR.so")), into my .Rprofile to load the library at

Request for Feature: Debug IP List
Hi, It would be very useful to have a parameter(s) that allows a list of IP addresses, for which verbose debugging takes place. This would be extremely helpful for tracking odd cases that do not occur consistently, and for troubleshooting machine-specific issues. example smb.conf entries: debug ip list level = 10 debug ip list = 192.168.0.151 192.168.0.136 Ideally this would be available

vorbis' configure
It seems that the configure script in CVS does not check the CFLAGS environment variable at all. Indeed, on line 121 of configure.in, CFLAGS is explicitly set to be blank. Is this done for a reason? I see that several sets of CFLAGS are passed into the Makefiles by configure based upon specific architecture/compiler combinations -- perhaps this is the reason...? I ask because users may wish to

vorbis_analysis() dependencies?
Per Monty's suggestions from a while ago, I have [finally] gotten around to playing with different schemes for parallel oggenc. Monty's main suggestion was to have a single thread loop over reading samples and calling vorbis_analysis_blockout(), and then queueing up the resulting blocks to be processed through vorbis_analysis() in other threads (in parallel). To verify that this works, I

By design or a bug?
Happy new millenium! Summary: I'm having a problem queueing up the ogg_packet results of vorbis_analyze() for later writing to an .ogg stream. The docs don't seem to say if this is permissable or not. Hence, I don't know if I'm using the API incorrectly, or if this is an actual bug. ----- Attached is a short patch to vorbis-tools/oggenc/encode.c (from CVS head, 01/01/01... I

win98 vs win95 with TCP/IP
You wrote: I have been disappointed that I can't use Linux+Samba as an alternative to a Win9x or NT server for our GP medical practice. The software we need runs in win9x. We crave stability. But Linux+Samba is just much slower as a file server. It's normally quite fast: are you running over a dial-up network, requiring you to adust MTU's for speed??? If not, try ``socket

Makefile.am patch
Since vorbiscomment is being resurrected in a new form, can someone please fix the vorbis-tools/vorbiscomment/Makefile.am? There's two things wrong: 1. Using _LDFLAGS doesn't allow the user to specify their own LDFLAGS. _LDADD or _LIBS should be used instead. 2. The order of libraries is wrong such that it won't link properly when compiled statically. Here's a trivial

Non-gcc build problems
I sent a message about 2 weeks ago about build problems at the head of the CVS tree with non-gcc compilers on POSIX systems, although I didn't correctly identify the link problems as being static-library only (see my previous mail about "static link broken"). Some problems have been fixed, but some still seem to be there. I have edited my original mail to list the problems that

Hello, I've been trying to compile some things but have run into some problems. I've have the vorbis directory inside of /usr/src. I have compiled vorbis itself with no problems. I've also copied the results to their respective directories as per the README file. I've also compiled the XMMS plugin with no problem. However when it is installed in the

...ind it funny, but some non-profits have no firewall, just a standard ADSL router. The ones that the telecom company provides often has no IP filtering abilities. 2) I will not expose an SMTP server to the outside word. I will not install in, or advise to, a small business a piece of software that craves for attention (patch me, patch me!). 3) Of course I can ask the current ISP. And they may comply. But how about the next one? 4) Of course I can filter my provider's IP in some Linux firewall. But then the provider will change its setup and won't tell me. Or I will not have time to modi...

[BOOK] VoIP Telephony with Asterisk
I have had this book for a while and I must say I'm very disapointed with it. It's presented as a "technical overview of the open source PBX" but IMHO it's more like "a collection of howtos with rather confusing examples". It has about zero structure and doesn't really help you understand how asterisk works. I don't really recommend this book unless

Re: Halo install won't work.
The Halo installer requires a native windows .dll file to complete the installation. Find a copy of mfc42.dll from either another windows machine or download it from the internet, and place it in the following directory: [Arrow] ~/.wine/drive_c/windows/system32 This should solve the craving for the PidGen.dll file & the installation should then be able to complete without any errors.

full size shown before file transfer (via samba) completes?
I noticed this when transferring a 200mb file from my win box to my linux box (that has it's hd shared with samba). I typed ls -l in a term window to see the progress, but it was showing full size even though according to windows the transfer was only around 10-20%, and so on. Why does samba do this? If I transfer with ftp, or ssh transfer, I see the file size growing in shell.
