Vorbis Ambisonic coupling
...n. I am new to compressed audio coding so please correct any stupid assumptions I make ... 8>D >From the Vorbis spec and Stereo mode page, my tentative recommendations as a (pseudo) Soundfield and Ambi guru are as follows. - The Ambisonic B-format WXYZ channels should be should be lossless coupled together over most of the frequency range. This will give the most gain as W "usually*" has everything that XYZ has. A perfect B-format signal has scaled versions of XYZ in W.* - We allow "4 phase coupling" at higher frequencies. A perfect B-format set of WXYZ should only h...

Encoding with Channel-Coupling
Hi, I'm planning to re-encode all my MP3s with Ogg Vorbis but I wanted to wait until 1.0 was released because of channel-coupling. I read that would increase quality about 40% at the same bitrate and I didn't want to encode my files wasting all that bitrate ... Now, since 1.0rc1 is released I am wondering if I am actually able to use channel-coupling right now. I installed all the newest

channel coupling in rc2
This question has probably been asked a zillion times, but I'm either too dumb or too lazy to sift through the archives, so I'll ask it here again: Which of the bitrates in RC2 utilize channel coupling and which don't? And when can we expect to choose for ourselves whether we want to use channel coupling at any particular bitrate? Thanks for your patience, mlf -- Michael Flegel,

Dinosaur *
Hello, With some trepidation I've come to inquire about platform requirements for * after having spent a couple of hours searching and browsing the archives and skimming the Handbook (very nice). I've found recommendations for 800-1000 Mhz and 128-256 MB RAM machines. My curiosity is not about what machine I need to start using * to support live comm ops. Rather, I want to know if a couple of dinosa...

Peeling vs Coupling
After reading the documentation on the different types of channel coupling I began to wonder what effects this might have on bit peeling. Say for instance an audio file is encoded at a rather high bit rate with channel coupling type "X". Later on the same file is streamed, and is peeled down to a much lower bit rate in the process. However at this lower bit rate, channel coupling type

Meaning of mapping[]
Hey everyone, I've added Ogg Opus support to my Adobe Premiere plug-in here: http://github.com/fnordware/AdobeOgg Now I'll add Opus support to me WebM plug-in too. I've got this Opus stuff mostly figured out, but I have a few questions. Here's one: What do the numbers in mapping mean? I see that opus.h refers to the Vorbis channel mapping order, so does mapping in Opus take

RH developer toolset
I saw an article this morning about the RH developer toolset. basically it includes a couple of packages like PHP python mysql (etc) that are later packages than that included in the released version like a 6.4 for example. So instead of php 5.3 with patches it would be php 5.4 and so on. That is great for a couple packages - but what about more up to date libraries like glib. 6.4 is way...

rc2 channel coupling
Try this: make encoder invert polarity of right (or left) channel on input and listen to output files (at about 128 kbps). I know that I am being nasty, but some software uses this kind of trick to produce 'surround'-like effects; this stuff causes channel coupling to puke (works fine with RC2 when channel coupling is disabled, tried with my Winamp output plugin which has an option to do

stereo couple
Dear All: I studied the stereo couple documents and now confused, I wonder why it can be done like that, and what is the principle behind that. I think i am confused perhaps because i have no background knowledge, can you help me out? Also, when doing the T/F transform,we used MDCT, so it means no imaginary part. And i am much puzzled...

Meaning of mapping[]
...you how to map the decoded opus channels to particular speakers. > For example, opus_multistream_surround_encoder_create() sends out mapping[] = {0, 4, 1, 2, 3, 5}. > For 6 channels the Vorbis order is front left, center, front right, rear left, rear right, LFE. You also need the number of coupled channels to understand mapping[]. Opus multichannel support works by bundling some combination of stereo and mono streams. This is left flexible so the encoder can optimize it based on application. The number of coupled channels tells the multistream decoder how many stereo streams to configure, s...

5.1 surround channel coupling
It obviously would be nice to have such a mode available, for e.g. DVD audio compression. Apparently, the list doesn''t tell me too much about it. My questions are: 1. What is the current status of the 5.1 channel coupling in Vorbis? 2. If I''ll be interested in participation in its development, what is the recommended reading? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML

identify duplicate from more than one column
Hi all, I've searched everywhere to try to find out how to do this and have had no luck. I am trying to construct identifiers for couples in a dataset. Essentially, I want to identify couples using more than one column as identifiers. Take for instance: obs unit home z sex age 1 015029 18 1 1 053 2 015029 18 1 2 049 3 015029 01 1 1 038 4 015029 01 1 2 033 5 015029 02 1 1 036 6 01502...

[lld] Any chance to get review for a couple of patches in a couple of years?
Hi, Yes I'll do that. The situation has changed a lot since then and lld got support for other architectures, in particular aarch64. But if I remember correctly, there was a discussion whether we should bring this ABI oddness to the ABI standard body (if exists) or not. I wonder if there was some progress on that. Dtrace not working for processes running after a couple of hours
Hi, all, I''m a newbie on dtrace and the problem I am having is: For processes which have been running for more than a couple of hours, dtrace doesn''t seem to be able to trace(I waited for at least one hour and didn''t see anything happening). However, it works every time for a relatively new process. Any insight or help will be appreciated. This is my machine: SunOS costello 5.10 Generic sun4u sp...

How is 6 channels coupling made?
...m, but Tobias gives no signs of life. I want to make a directshow filter which exchanges the 6 channels in the opposite way, to be applied before the vorbis encoder, so to fix the bug by Tobias. But I'm wondering if this would be a complete fix or not, because I don't know if or how Vorbis couples the channels when encoding; and I don't know if the current OggDS Vorbis encoder couples the channels before the bug or after the bug. Somebody who knows the libraries being used by Tobias could guess this better than me. Please tell <p>Also does anybody have a test pattern wave in 5.1...

[LLVMdev] Issue with GetElementPtrInst in Instruction Combining pass
With reference to the previous query, I think, i miscalculated the offset, just recalculating. 1. without instruction combining coupling member variable, is at:   %struct._FRAME_DATA* %2, i32 0, i32 5   where "%2" is defined as:   %arrayidx3 = getelementptr inbounds i16* %Data, i32 1024, !dbg !446   %2 = bitcast i16* %arrayidx3 to %struct._FRAME_DATA*, !dbg !446 i.e. at 5 offset in

coupled statistical models
Can someone point me to the appropriate functions for fitting multiple statistical models that are coupled to each other. The data are measurements of salinity s and temperature t at stations id and pressures at p as well as surface elevations h at stations id. The problem is, for any new station, to estimate s at all p, given t at all p and given h. If h is ignored, the for each p, there would...

Cisco to use * as a gateway?
I'm not sure if I am wording this correctly, but I'll try. I have a Cisco 2621 w/ a couple FXO and FXS ports. I have a couple cheap analog phones plugged into the FXS ports. I am able to get * to ring those phones when a call comes in, but I cannot get the phones to dial out. I guess it's all syntax that I'm doing wrong. Does someone have a couple small snip-its to accomplish...

Channel Coupling and Quality (-q 5 vs -q 4.99)
Thought I'd throw another log on to the quality debate to liven things up a bit. Does anyone have any evidence anecdotal or otherwise on the difference between -q 5 and -q 4.99? Now, I know that the difference between them is ONLY that a lossy channel coupling is used at 4.99 and that lossless channel coupling is used at 5. So my question is: How good is the channel coupling in 4.99? Can
