Rating competitors
I am looking for hints on how to estimate ratings for competitors in an ongoing pairwise competition using R... my particular area of interest being the game of Go, but the idea of identifying ratings (on a continuous scale) rather than relative rankings seems easily generalized to other competitions so I thought someone might be studying something related alrea...

Query an Access database based on a date attribute (Tudor Bodea)
Tudor Bodea asked: >In this context, I try to get all the records for which market is atl-bos, >competitor is delta and dd is 2007-11-20 (first record above). To do this I used >># channel <- odbcConnectAccess("test.mdb") >>res <- sqlQuery(channel, "select * from test_table where market = 'atl-bos' >>and competitor = 'delta' and dd = 2007-11-20&quo...

Query an Access database based on a date attribute
Dear useRs, I would like to query an Access database through R based on a date attribute but, unfortunately, I fail to do so. For example, the table test_table of the test.mdb looks like: ID cd market competitor dd price 1 1 2007-11-20 atl-bos delta 2007-11-20 210 2 2 2007-11-20 atl-bos delta 2007-11-21 190 3 3 2007-11-20 atl-bos delta 2007-11-22 180 4 4 2007-11-20 atl-bos united 2007-11-20 205 5 5 2007-11-20 atl-bos united 2007-11-21 195 6 6 2007-11-20...

R: Query an Access database based on a date attribute
It seems that Access needs that you surround the dates with a # symbol. You probably need something like. res <- sqlQuery(channel, "select * from test_table where market = 'atl-bos' and competitor = 'delta' and dd = #2007-11-20#") Hope this helps, Stefano -----Messaggio originale----- Da: r-help-bounces at r-project.org [mailto:r-help-bounces at r-project.org]Per conto di Mark Wardle Inviato: marted? 13 novembre 2007 11.59 A: Tudor Bodea Cc: r-help at stat.math.ethz.ch Oggetto:...

Fwd: Erika DeBenedictis-Recommendation
...year was my first year competing in the challenge. From the kickoff, I immediately noticed Erika's dedication and involvement with the challenge. Being the first among us to arrive and the last to leave, she helped set up the various workshops to even taught programming seminars to the younger competitors - all with complete enjoyment and satisfaction. > > On a more personal level, as an unfamiliar first time competitor, whenever frustrations or difficulties arose, Erika was a person I could turn to. Programming with two other people was exceedingly difficult in particular, and yet Erika'...

Will CentOS become obsolete now because of the changes Red Hat is implementing?
This post appeared on another forum: Will CentOS become obsolete now because of the changes Red Hat is implementing? Red Hat has changed the way it distributes Enterprise Linux kernel code in an effort to prevent Oracle and Novell from stealing its customers, making it more difficult for these competitors to understand which patches have been applied where. Some have speculated that the change is designed to make it harder for Oracle as well as the open source CentOS project to build their own Linux distributions. But Stevens says this is not the case. He says the change is meant to hamper Oracle...

sangoma zaptel patches
Hi folks I've tried asking this in private mail for quite some time, but sadly got no reply. So I end up needing to raise the question here. Sangoma's s setup process includes a small patch to Zaptel. I have some technical reservations with that patch. It seems that under certain circumstances it may cause unexpected behavior when used with other Zaptel channel drivers. I also don't

[OT] Open source archive program on windows
I am looking for a recommendation for an open source competitor to Winzip. I seem to recall Brian Ripley mentioning one in the last year or so, but couldn't find it in the mail archives. Insert raster image into an R graphic
...a company logo, a school logo, etc. into an R graphic? For example, it would be nice to be able to include the logo of the school into the charts that a student produces for her dissertation. Similarly, while working on a competitive analysis, it would be nice to be able to replace the names of the competitors with their brand logos. My searches so far led to inconclusive results and, therefore, any suggestions are welcome. Thank you so much. Speex or iLBC?
Hi kind developers, I need select soon the best freeware VOIP codec, I see that all competitors are using iLBC because of the separate packets management. How speex behave in case of packets drop? Why other choice all iLBC? Thank you for any kind answer. Best regards. ------------------------------------- Roberto Della Pasqua Http: www.dellapasqua.com Email/Msn: roberto@dellapasqua.com A...

T1/E1 Cards
This is probably a really bad question to ask but here goes. Does asterisk work with any of the T1/E1 cards from SBE? I'm sure SBE is a competitor to Digium, but I have access to SBE cards and the linux driver. Just curious more than anything. Thanks. -- Michael J. Using (was: Announcing) Gluster Storage Platform
OK, you have my attention. But reading around on the website for 5 or 10 minutes and I'm still not sure what this is. What is it? Why would I use it? What would I use instead of it? (Who are its competitors) When would I not use it? I see this "The software is a powerful and flexible solution that simplifies the task of managing unstructured file data", but I have no idea what "unstructured file data" means. -- ?Don't eat anything you've ever seen advertised on TV?...

ultra-low bitrate stream?
...ality parameter to make balance between storage space and sound quality. The input sound is 22050Hz, mono. To maximize the recording capability on a given storage volume, we want the result bitrate as low as possible. I use -q0 parameter and it produces a 32.0kbps stream. It is too high (our competitor using Microsoft WMA can produce 16kbps streams at the lowest quality setting). I tried -q-1 and the bitrate is still 24.2kbps. -q-2 and -b16 both produce error messages. How can I get lower kbps using oggvorbis?

TwinVQ versus The World
...ped are Ogg Vorbis and mp3pro. I don't think anyone has mentioned TwinVQ on this list. While exploring alternatives to MP3 (which is when I also found Vorbis), I noticed TwinVQ. I encoded a few tracks with TwinVQ and they sounded like shit, but does anyone still consider TwinVQ a serious competitor in the compressed audio market? Does it have _any_ advantages over anything else? How about AAC?
