OT - Please don't feed the Troll(s)
Folks, I fully understand the emotional need to respond to one who throws around terms like "Communist", "Tyrannical", etc. even if ostensibly framed as a rhetorical question. Certain terms and phrases are by nature pejorative and I;m sure the OP knew this when he entered his post. My feeling was the OP is either an ignorant, unappreciative, self-centered, and emotionally

1. I really HATE POLITICS. 2. I think Speex is a great solution to the problem of compressing human speech. 3. Good heavens people can we please stop throwing around words like communist and socialism. 4. Government funded research has done a lot for the US and other countries. Going all the way back to the NACA cowling and airfoils that where vital in the development of airliners and the fighters

Hello Ivo: One more from me and I suppose a retort by you and that's it ... no flame war please. Let's see if we can keep this discussion objective. I've had enough life experience to have seen and heard the mistakes you've made many times. Point by point: * This is a tech list that I joined a number of years ago because of a serious intent to use the Speex product in my

Hello Jean: Big mistake!! One of the three things that a supplier should never discuss is politics ... that's business 101. Speex may be a very good product, but we will never use it because of the politics that you espouse ... some of us out here believe strongly in the free market. And we also know that monopolies can't exist because entrepreneurs will always exploit the

Program needs IE 5.5
I have CX installed. I am running Office 97, IE 5.5, Quicken, etc. I'm trying to install ACT! (a Windows PIM application). The install routine errors out, complaining that I do not have IE 5.5 installed. Well, it's installed and runs. Browsing fake_windows shows what looks to be a normal IE 5.5 setup. Help|About in IE shows 5.5. Is there something I'm missing about showing

--with-winbind-ldap-hack problems
Hello, I'm trying to configure Samba 2.2.8a on OpenBSD 3.1, and I'd like to try the LDAP features since I have OpenLDAP running locally. The problem is, configure fails. :-( The first problem, according to the output in configure.log, was that ld could not find libldap.a. The releveant lines from config.log: configure:14291: gcc -o conftest -DHAVE_CRYPT_DECL -I/usr/include/ssl -O

Hello Monty: I'm OK with not continuing this on the Speex tech list. In fact, I've deliberately responded off list to the various posters. I do think, though, that your admonitions to be non political should go to both sides ... that Jean-Marc founded Speex doesn't give him license to denigrate other efforts. Thomas Leigh asked a perfectly legitimate question and Jean-Marc's

NYC Ruby Job Fair ‹ April 25th
=== NYC Ruby Job Fair -- April 25th The NYC Ruby meetings lately have looked a lot like middle school dances. On one side of the room is people saying, "Gee, I wish I could work full-time doing Ruby or Ruby on Rails." On the other side of the room are companies saying, "Wow, those Ruby people sure look cute, I wish they would all come work for me." The music is playing, the

Creating a Roaming imap account
This (CentOS5.1) box is my new imap server. Using system-config-security-level I opened port 143 tcp, and mail is readable throughout the LAN. I want a Roaming account on my laptop so that I can read mail while away from home. I have set up the account in kmail, and I know that that part is correct, as it worked on my old, less-secured, imap server. However, I haven't been able so far
