directory mask = 2770
...n, I can post that too, I just didn't
want to waste people's time.
Can samba support a directory mask of 2770? If so, what am I doing wrong?
Thanks!
Chris

Please Help with single table inheritance relationships
I''ve been searching the web, wikis, and more, and I haven''t turned up
examples of how to have multiple entities in a single-table inheritance
related to anything.
I have an addresses table, but multiple entities can have Addresses:
both Person (which has 2 addresses) and Retailer. I''ve been told that I
need to use single-table inheritance, and this was my attempt:

samba and domain local groups
Quick question about Samba and Domain Local groups.
Ive got a Samba 3.0.7 server (redhat 8) as a domain member of a 2K
Domain in native mode. (security = domain).
Std Windows group mgmt says:
Users are members of Global Groups.
Global Groups are members of local groups
Local Groups control access to resources.
So ive got a Domain Local group I want to use to restrict access to a
samba share:

Hello.
I have set up a new samba server here at work, and for most things it is
working great -- but there is yet one major issue.
It works fine for Windows and Dave clients, but the problem arises when I use
smbmount. It is set up as a domain member of an ADS domain.
For example, I have a public share that everyone in the office should be able
to access, regardless of platform or even

find_by_sql ON STEROID possible?
find_by_sql BREAKS THE OOP BEAUTY and perhaps we can solve that.
NAMING CONVENTIONS can perhaps make find_by_sql much more clever.
lets imagine that relation:
publishers <- books <-> authors_books <-> authors -> universities (can''t find
something else than university for that last association :) )
imagine we want to fetch every book and every associated

Directory access permissions
I think what fredrico says is good advice.
I have one more suggestion.
Make the users primary group the same, if possible.
So if you have user: Bob
#groups bob
(output is:) bob : bob accounting
This is not ideal, because any file made by him will have the group bob.
if you do this
# usermod -g accounting bob
# groups bob
bob : accounting
Bob doesn't really need to be a member of group

smbmount and 2215
Hello. I have a samba server setup with 3.0.2a-r1.
It was working just fine, then suddenly, I cannot connect to any of my shares
on my server with smbmount. Everytime I try to connect, I get this error:
session setup failed: ERRDOS - 2215
I do something like this: smbmount //myserver/share /mnt/misc -o
username=myself,workgroup=myworkgroup
The password prompt comes up, I put it in, it hangs

Couldn't find user %u
Hello again...
Still struggling with this. I don't understand it, because this stuff used
to work on my old samba server, and what I am trying to do looks similar to
the example in the book...
I am using samba 3.0.4 in as an ADS domain member. (I used to use 2.0.7 in an
NT4 domain).
I am trying to use directives like:
force user = %u
valid users = %u
force group = %g
But they are

Migration issue
Hello everyone,
My samba has been running so flawlessly, I don't think I have posted here in
about 2 years!
But, the time has come to move our windows domain from NT 4 to windows 2000.
Currently, we run samba 2.0.7 on an old RH 6.2 box which hands off all
authentication to the NT4 pdc (we have no bdc currently). I would like to
keep this same style of authentication -- where the samba

Streaming Hold Music
Does anyone have a good solution to stream hold music to the Asterisk/FreePBX server? I currently have setup WinAMP using ShoutCast but it appears to a very touch and go stream, being that it seems to periodically drop the connection.
Asterisk 1.6, FreePBX 2.8, WinAMP v5.6

Permission weirdness
Hello.
I am running samba 3.0.5 in an ADS environment. I have a win2k3 server as the
DC and my samba machine (running on Gentoo Linux) is a member of that domain.
I am using winbind.
I have three users, for this example I will call them Larry, Curly and Moe.
All three have RW access to a share on the server called "stooges". The
linux perms on this directory look like this:

valid users %g and %u not behaving properly...
Hello.
I have samba working with ADS and winbind (upgrading from nt4/samba-2.0.7 to
w2k3/samba-3.0.4). Everything seems cool, but for one thing.
My old homes share used to look like this:
[homes]
path=%H/sam
valid users = +%G,%U
force user = %U
force group = %G
write list = +%U
create mask = 0770
directory mask = 0770
browseable=no
read only = no
It worked beautifully. But the whold valid

--link-dest uid/gid checking bug?
Hi --
I was very keen to download rsync and give it a whirl with the
new --link-dest feature. However, I was terribly puzzled when I
couldn't seem to get it working, even though --compare-dest with
the same argument would work. It seemed like new files would
be transferred even though files existed in the compare-dest/link-dest
location; compare-dest would detect them but link-dest would

What happened to this list?
Hello.
I have been having some major troubles lately with samba and winbind. The
last 5 posts I made, no one has responded. I did some looking around, and in
the last several months it seems that very few people are getting any
assistance at all on this list at all.
Why is that? I haven't needed this list in years, but it used to be very
different.
Is there another place a person can
