Snom firmwares suck <--additional datapoint to consider
...load/snom360-5.5b-beta-SIP-j.bin
I would not recommend to downgrade since you would be loosing some
functionality"
Changing firmware revs did not help, so that left the LAN.
I looked long and hard at the LAN and it was basically narrowed down to the
switches. In this smaller install, several cheapo Dlink ($30) switches
de-aggregate a Cisco Catalyst switch. What I noticed was that any phone
plugged direcly into the Catalyst did *not* lock up or reboot. Any phone
plugged into the crap switches experienced the lockup. So now we are down to
the cheap switches themselves. We are nuking the Dlink s...

Sound cards for Centros
What sound cards are recognized by Centros? I have installed it on an
old 400MHz IBM Aptiva that has Crystal Audio built-in. However it does
not seem to recognize that, nor a Sound Blaster, nor a Sound Blaster 16
that I have tried.
Any cheapo cards that it would recognize?

TDM400 with FXS some handsets not ringing
Folks,
I have a TDM400 with an FXS module. I'm having some trouble ringing
some phones attached to the device.
I have a real el cheapo handset that cost me about 9UKP. It works fine,
I plug it into the Wildcard and call the channel and it rings.
I have tried plugging in my BT Diverse 3016 cordless phone but it will
not ring, although I can call out from it.
I have also tried my GPO 332L (a rotary dial phone from the 1950's)...

Very small office install
...hones into my wife's small office.
Hope that my questions weren't discussed recently and are not to
dumb.
The current requirements for * consist of a single incoming ISDN
BRI line (currently have 5 MSN allocated), 3 internal extensions
and a single analog fax.
1. I plan to buy some el cheapo (relatively, since VoIP phones are
still quite expensive here) "Planet" VoIP phones for internal
extension: http://www.planet.com.tw/product/product_dm.php?
product_id=192&menu_id=3
Anybody have experience with those and *?

UK CallerID -v- Wildcard W100P
At the risk of being flamed....
Has anyone had any success get the 'El cheapo' Wildcard W100P clone's
(?20 flavour) to work with UK Caller ID?
I'm not sure what the status of Asterisk 1.6 is with respect to UK
caller ID, being that we have an odd method of sending the FSK ahead of
the ring, but I'm guessing I can't be the first to ask this?

SIP Phone Recommendations?
...phones
on our network.
This is a small setup, for no more than 20 users total. ?We need at least one
of them to be a "receptionist" phone, the sort that calls can be routed from
throughout the network, and then several more garden-variety handsets for
regular users. ?A couple of el-cheapos to stick in out-of -the-way, little
used spots would also be nice, if there are any good ones out there.
Any phones that you've loved? ?Any that you've hated? ?Your input will be most
welcome.
Cheers,
John Mensel ?

umass device support...how generic is it?
Is there any point in reporting specific devices that work with umass(4)
any more, or is the assumption these days that anything that will work on a
Windows or Linux box, without additional drivers, will also work on
FreeBSD? The cheapo 'pen drive' that I picked up on ebay yesterday
surprised me by just working, with no pain whatsoever... I'm wondering if
maybe I shouldn't be so surprised by these small victories :-)
If it is true that pretty much everything just works, the manpage and
hardware list should probabl...

NTL Hangup
Hi all,
I'm currently on an NTL PSTN line, using Asterisk 1.2 and a X101P cheapo
card.
The problem lies with detecting when the far end has hung up. It fails
to detect it, and will only cleardown when the silence timeout has been
reached. Now, I've seen the thread at
http://www.mail-archive.com/asterisk-users@lists.digium.com/msg32337.html,

GSM cellphone as cheap gateway?
...erver costs
over $300.
If possible, I'd rather have a local solution than use a remote VoIP
provider to have Asterisk make outgoing calls to the GSM network.
So... I was wondering if there are some entry-level cellphones that
can somehow be hooked up to a PC running Asterisk and used as an
el-cheapo GSM gateway?
Thank you.

Most effective amount of memory
What is most effective amount of memory for a RedHat 6.0 box used as a file / print / mail server?
I have 128MB in a Celeron 400 box running file/print/mail services & Gnome.
It seems a little slow.
Not sure if it's the RAM, video ( cheapo 2MB Cirrus Logic card) &/or hard drive Quantum IDE 6GB hard drive.

Is this possible?
Anyone tried this,
I put in an Asterisk/FreePBX phone system to replace one of those el cheapo
Bizfon analog key systems. The Bizfon was able to do follow me to analog
lines but I do not believe the capability is in Asterisk. Of course now it
becomes the one feature they cannot do without. Somehow the Bizfon is able
to detect if an analog line is answered (without answer supervision). If...

Just looked at the log from the x86_64 machine and I see the same zcat:
stdout: Broken pipe in the 00-makewhatis.cron job as on the x86
machine. Did I miss some thread about current updates somewhere?

plugged into a open pci slot with the phone line from the wall into the

Snom-320 badly garbled audio
Hello,
I just bought a Snom-320 from ATAComm. I plugged it into my LAN,
registered it with *, etc. All my other SIP gear is Sipura and works
fine, both on the LAN and over the Internet.
The new Snom seems like it can't process the audio from the handset
mic. A steady tone is garbled, even on the LAN. I've contacted
ATAComm, Snom and the company representing Snom in the US. So
