[LLVMdev] Machine LICM and cheap instructions?
Hi everyone,
The MachineLICM pass has a heuristic such that, even in low-register-pressure situations, it will refuse to hoist "cheap" instructions out of loops. By default, when an itinerary is available, this means that all of the defined operands are available in at most 1 cycle. ARM overrides this, and provides this more-customized definition:
bool ARMBaseInstrInfo::
hasLowDefLatency(const InstrItineraryData *ItinData,...

favorite cheap VPS services
...use some of the big data stores. Specifically I
want to learn how to use CassandraDB and Hadoop. Originally I'd had the
idea of trying to setup a cassandra ring on the Amazon AWS free tier.
However it seems that neither will run on a t2.micro instance.
So I was wondering.. what are some really cheap VPS services that you like
to use for one off projects like this and why. I'm looking for dirt cheap
as possible.
I'd love to hear any opinions on this !!
Thanks

cheap mobo/cpu combo with hardware virtualization support?
I''ve currently got a Xen 2 system running on a CL10000 VIA system. I''d
like to upgrade to Xen 3 and make use of the hardware virtualization
support in Xen (sometimes). My requirements then:
1) Cheap CPU. AMD or Intel. Must have Xen3 hardware VM support. Any speed.
2) Lower power consumption from the CPU
3) Cheap mobo to support the chip.
4) Decent raid-1 SATA support on the mobo, supported under Linux
Any recommendations, experiences etc?
Cheers
Chris

VOIP phonesets vs. cheap Analog touch-tone sets with Asterisk
...o--
I've been asked an interesting question, and I'm too ignorant to answer
it authoritatively (yet). Can anyone help me?
Question: If I'm going to implement a somewhat small (10-80) phone
system, and I have a choice of using VOIP phoneset (like SNOM or
Grandstream or Cisco, etc), vs. cheap analog touch-tone phones, exactly
what features will I kiss goodbye if I use the cheap analogs?
In other words, what features will a (more expensive) VOIP phoneset
provide, that the analog won't?
I know already that asterisk will give me these features with just plain
analog phones (&zapt...

Temperature sensor
Does anyone know of a cheap temperature sensor that will work with
Linux? I don't need a fancy monitoring appliance, I just want a simple
sensor that I can connect to one of my monitoring servers to let me know
if the server room is getting hot.

Depends what you mean by 'cheap'.

PCI-X/PCIe RAID controller.
Afternoon,
I've got an old Dell PERC 4DC (PCI 64bit/33MHz) sitting in my home rig
and with a new board on the way that has PCI-X (133) and PCIe (x4)
slots, I was wondering what people would recommend for a cheap
hardware parallel SCSI RAID controller (no fake raid please) that is
relatively cheap but faster then the old PERC? I'm looking for
something cheap that'll do RAID-10 but bonus points if it does
RAID-5/6. :-)

LVM, usb drives, Active Directory
I have a client with a handful of USB drives connected to a CentOS
box. I am charged with binding the USB drives together into a single
LVM for a cheap storage data pool (10 x 1 TB usb drives = 10 TB cheap
storage in a single mount point).
The next fun piece is how to incorporate that storage space into an
existing Active Directory structure to apply AD acls for limited
access.
I'd rather not use Samba, as that is its own infrastructure and...

ultra-cheap asterisk box
hi all
what about this...
I just put together a box on a web shop (komplett.no) that will cost me
NOK ~1850 (? 216) plus a small ?50 drive and cables, so say ?300. This
consists of a cheap MB with a duron 1400, 256MB SDRAM and two HFC-PCI
cards (if capijod will finish off the zaptel-driver soon). This is all
in a cheap PC case.
What do you think? Should this be doable? as a product? With only IP
phones and potentially a fax solution? any ideas?
thanks

Cheap Hosting Options? (for Ruby on Rails) Suggestions?
Hi all,
Any suggestions re cheap [or free ideally :)] hosting solutions for Ruby
on Rails applications.
At this stage for me it''s just the ability mainly to learn/play, but at
the same time being able to publish the application to internet so
friends can use.
Thanks

[LLVMdev] "Machine LICM" for Constants?
Thanks for the tip! I looked into it and it looks like the problem as
of SVN HEAD is that the lui and ori instructions in Mips are considered
cheap (1-cycle def-use latency) by MachineLICM::IsCheapInstruction(),
but are not trivially materializable because their register operands are
not always available. This makes MachineLICM::IsProfitableToHoist()
return false, preventing the hoist even though
MachineLICM::IsLoopInvariantInst() returns...
