trying to recover an audio CD...
I'm trying to recover data from an audio cd. it is a recording of a live session, made on a professional cd recorder, on the fly. apparently, instead of stopping it and fixating the disc, someone turned off the power. oops. I know that wodim will fixate a disk as long as it was otherwise properly terminated (I've done it more than once), but this one it won't fixate. depending on

OGG not working in Windows?
I ripped (CDDA2WAV) and encoded (OGGENC) OGG files on my Linux box using GRIP. The OGG files play fine in my XMMS on my Linux box. These are all from brand new lib (rc2) compiles. But no matter what I try, FreeAmp or Winamp (w/ plugin), they do nothing on my Windows boxes. Anyone? Thanks. --EdB <edb@eart...

Idea to possibly improve flac?

Yes, this is sad. cdparanoia, which could be considered a strong opensource meatspace partner to FLAC (along with cdda2wav) is also effectively dead. All three living on only in the ports trees of various operating systems. Minor bugs and doc fixes are always needed. What's worse is, when the heat turns up on dead projects, instead of just stepping up or handing off in a competitive/proposal/worthy yet time limited...

Newbie: How to copy track from CD for MOH without getting "Junk at beginning of frame ..."
I was copying tracks from CD into mp3 files so that I could use it in Asterisk 1.4.21.2 MOH. (BTW, I have already secured proper license to play MOH to callers.) I used MS Media Player version 11 and rip it at 128kbps (smallest) but whenever I listen to MOH, I saw the following message on the Asterisk console. WARNING[20829]: mp3/interface.c:215 decodeMP3: Junk at the beginning of frame 49443303

Yep, if you can get their TOC tables to agree. cdparanoia, eac and cdda2wav do differ at times with this. It took raw scsi/ata commands to figure out who was right. A minor example of an unfixed fixable. > Technics ... turntables are still in production, out of the same factory > in Japan. Wrote a PHP script where the person can enter our unique SKU for that CD, it shows it on the screen to confirm it's the correct SKU, then they click GO. But definitely doing them as individual songs. CD Baby using FLAC to archive 40,000 CDs
Hey FLAC gang - Just thought you'd like to know CD Baby has switched to FLAC for archiving the 40,000 CDs we have in stock. Luckily HD space is down below $1/gig so we got a 6-terabyte RAID-5 box set up for about $7000. Got the FreeBSD boxes churning away night and day, ripping and archiving. I'll do a more formal press release for ya in a couple months as we're further along, but

k3b -> cddb doesn't work
Copying a CD with k3b is no problem, except I want to include on my copy the cbbd data (from freedb.org). I've configured k3b's cddb section according to instructions at <http://www.freedb.org/en/faq.3.html#15> and read every article google could find about "k3b cddb freedb.org config", but still k3b can't manage it. Grip handles getting the cddb data just fine.

Idea to possibly improve flac?
Hi folks! Due to the fact that more and more users increasingly use MP3 < 320kbps as their source for encoding music, and publish it as flac files, I suggest that something is done in the flac encoder to possible avoid this. My idea is kinda easy/stupid, but might work; Implement a function that use a FFT to check if the input has frequencies > 16kHz, and informs the user that the file
