[Fwd: dvd+rw-format -force problem]
...at
-force merely zeros bitmap which describes which ECC blocks were
de-iced/written to and nullifies few blocks in the beginning of the
media. It's not what one would normally consider as [full] blanking. If
you want to nullify the media, e.g. for privacy reasons, 'dvd+rw-format
-force /dev/cd0c' won't do the tick, 'growisofs -Z /dev/cd0c=/dev/zero'
would.

dvd+rw-format -force problem
...lly blank a DVD+RW for a while untill today. In
between the last time and now, I both did a cvsup of STABLE and the port of
sysutils/dvd+rw-tools was upgraded. Hence - I'm not sure which could be
contributed to the cause.
The problem is the following:
When issuing:
dvd+rw-format -force /dev/cd0c
it fails, with 'unable to unmount' error.
A little tracing in the source, shows that the following patch, will work -
but is a not-so-pretty work-around:

then is doesnt allow a restart of X.
the other option seems to be the Aperture patch, ported in 2001 with no recent
updates and no longer usable against the current software.
2nd part of the question..
cd writing needs direct access to /dev/<acd0c> and that is also not allowed in
secure more.
how can one give selective access to only allow (RW) access to one or two
devices ?
if there is no way of doing these things with configs and such, can anyone
point me at the relevant source code that controls these functions so i can add
