density plot on a log scale
I'm working with a large dataset - large enough that when I do a scatter plot
the points all blur together, so I want to plot their density by color - a
heat map or something like that. I've used smoothScatter for tasks like
this, but the problem is that my current dataset really only looks good on a
log-log scale. When I do the following command
smoothScatter(

How to do a time-stratified case-crossover analysis for air pollution data?
Dear Experts,
I am trying to do a time-stratified case-crossover analysis on air
pollution data and number of myocardial infarctions. In order to avoid
model selection bias, I started with a simple simulation.
I'm still not sure if my simulation is right. But the results I get from
the "ts-case-crossover" are much more variable than those from a glm.
Is this:

[EXTERNAL] [llvm-mc] FreeBSD kernel module performance impact when upgrading clang
> You used -noinhibit-exec to ignore the diagnostic, which is usually a bad thing.
I certainly agree with that.
The point I was trying to make in my original email is that, specifically for kernel objects, this diagnostic is incorrect. R_X86_64_PC32 can be used safely against the symbol foo in that specific context, and should be possible without ignoring diagnostics. I wondered if there

[llvm-mc] FreeBSD kernel module performance impact when upgrading clang
Hi,
I'm in the process of migrating from clang5 to clang10. Unfortunately clang10 introduced a negative performance impact. The cause is an increase of PLT entries from this patch (first released in clang7):
https://bugs.llvm.org/show_bug.cgi?id=36370
https://reviews.llvm.org/D43383
If I revert that clang patch locally, the additional PLT entries and the performance impact disappear.

ad, sad, sad. on many fronts. I don't begin to understand how this might
work; I suppose the MP3 degradation only applies to MS encoding software...
*shrug*
this may, however, provide a good leveraging point for Vorbis.

Macbook for Rails Development
Hi All,
I''ve finally got fed up of struggling with Windows and am on the verge
of splashing out on a Macbook for Ruby/Rails development. I''ve seen
DHH''s post about it on loudthinking but I wondered if anyone else has
any more wisdom...
Is it worth it over a powerbook? Any tips on good OSX apps for Rails
dev (textmate, i know already)? Anything not working well on
