Cross Network Based CD/DVD Burning Software
...no CD/DVD burner on FC3 machine. I am looking for a free client & server or cross network CD/DVD burning software something like NeroNet available on Windows. Means on the one workstation(FC3) the client software for CD/DVD burning will be installed, through this client software the data to be burned will be passed to the server software for CD/DVD burning installed on the other workstation(Centos4.0) and then the server software will burn the CD/DVD of that data. Please let me know if you need any further inputs. Thanks & Regards Ankush Grover

64-bit ISO Burning Failures
Hi, I have downloaded several different sets of the 64-bit ISOs, and have burned them to CD using various of my known-good ISO burning softwares, including Nero and DeepBurn on Windows, as well as the native CD burning KDE linux tool on Xandros Linux. I am using mirrors from the site, like kernel.org. I have chosen low burning speeds also, but when I insert the ISO CD into a...

There's a new page on the Burns Statistics website http://www.burns-stat.com/pages/Tutor/spreadsheet_addiction.html that looks at spreadsheets from a quality assurance perspective. It presents R as a suitable alternative to spreadsheets. Also there are several specific problems with Excel that are highlighted, including the status of statistical functionality in Excel. CD burning issues & questions
I have been having some strange results trying to burn CDs under CentOS. I don't think they are hardware related because I have had some success, in fact most of this usually works. I use k3b for most of my CD and DVD writing - it seems to work fairly well (well, except for wrecking my installation a few weeks ago when it crashed my installation and I had to reinstall to get it back, but

24-bit FLAC Files
Hi, we're a small label in Honolulu, Hawaii, starting up, offering FLAC downloads of live performances of local artists, and we're wondering how is the support for 24-bit FLAC files? Our concern is that would it be too difficult for users to burn 24-bit FLAC recordings to CD? Are there any simple tools that convert 24-bit FLAC to 16-bit FLAC, or burning applications that transparently do

Can you do this? I have not found the options to get this to happen. So far I have seen how to read the Audio CD and make a directory of WAV files with a control file for later burning to CD, but I want an iso image that I can archive and burn audio CDs to use as they get used up.

Burning DVD with files>4GB from console
My backup script split filesystem dumps to files with size of 4,37 GB (4 588 544 kB). It's just an optimal size to fill out DVDs. At this moment I have to burn them from windows via smb-link becuase I didn't manage to do this task from FreeBSD console due to 2GB/4GB filesize restrictions (growisofs). I'm using freeware CDBurnerXP to burn my backups (ISO9660/UDF/Joliet), and they

...burn another dvd at at least 4 speeds slower. if runs ok, bad drive. if still fails, bad drive. another way you can check is to pull iso on system you are having problem with and burn dvd. if you get error, get a new drive. -------- Above quoted -------- When I md5sum the DVD on the system I burned it on, it matches. When I md5sum it on another system, it matches. When I md5sum it on the system I am trying to install, it comes up with a different answer. I'm getting a new DVD drive.

multiple names to assign
'assign' does not give a warning if 'x' has length greater than 1 -- it just uses the first element: assign(c('a1', 'a2'), 1:2) One way of thinking about this is that people using 'assign' get what they deserve. The other is that it is used seldom enough that adding a warning isn't going to slow things down appreciably. Patrick Burns patrick at
