Sample size for proportion, not binomial
Hello, I am looking for a sample size function for samples sizes, to test proportions that are not binomial proportions. The proportions represent a ratio of (final measure) / (baseline measure) on the same experimental unit. Searches using RSeek and such bring multiple hits for binomial proportions, but that doesn't seem to fit my situation. Perhaps there's some standard terminology

Plotting league tables/ caterpillar plots
...be to tell boxplot
not to plot boxes (sounds silly isn't it?). I've tried the option
"boxwex=0" but the result is unsatisfactory.
An example for a league table can be found in Marshall, Spiegelhalter
[1998], Reliability of league tables of in vitro fertilisation clinics,
BMJ1998;316:1701-1705, you may find it at http://bmj.bmjjournals.com

Wanted: online Introduction to R
As a complete newcomer I am attempting to learn to use R, but am finding
it extremely difficult because I have not yet found an "Introduction to
R".
For over a week now I have monitored the R-help list, studied the R-FAQ
and related documents, downloaded and run the Windows R and looked at
the Help, downloaded early and late samples of the R-help archives, and

odfWeave - merged table cells, and adding information like totals and p-values
...mply print those and then add them to my table by hand. But I'm trying to be smart and use odfWeave. Now I know I can put them in my caption but I'd probably have added them as an extra row in my table or added it in brackets similar to the SDs/ORs and CIs shown in this example http://www.bmj.com/cgi/content-nw/full/340/feb05_1/c199/TBL2 depending which was more appropriate.
- Is there an easy way to do anything like this? I'm thinking that we often put crude numbers in and (%) in brackets, or CIs etc - so my exported table would not ideally be pure numbers.
- As a p value usual...

Problem plotting curve on survival curve (something silly?)
...art Wizzard!
I eventually want to use it to analyse some chemotherapy response /
survival data. That data will not be mature and so my interest is in
using it to deliver predictions of what mature data may produce by using
Weibull Regression
However for now I've borrowed a dataset from the BMJ (CSV tabs seperated
version here:
http://www.wittongilbert.free-online.co.uk/HepatitisData.csv ) and am
trying to plot some curves.
I've succeeded in plotting a Kaplan-Meier Survival Curve by using the
following:

how to rsync over ssh, but login is not permit
Hi, I want to backup my system via rsync over ssh, but login is *not*
permited!
According to the sshd_config man page, I need to set PermitRootLogin to
forced-commands-only.
In order to run follow command, how to set command option in authorized_keys?
# rsync -avz server:/etc /backup
Best Regards!

R Square Help (this debate again, i know!)
Hello everyone,
I have been using R to do some behavioural economic analysis for my masters
thesis, specifically fitting demand curves using nls.
E.g.
Formula: y ~ c + b * x - a * exp(x)
Parameters:
Estimate Std. Error t value Pr(>|t|)
c -0.445097 0.080823 -5.507 0.005304 **
b -0.777105 0.059528 -13.054 0.000199 ***
a 0.011908 0.003886 3.064 0.037495 *

Estimating correlation in multiple measures data
Dear R-helpers,
This may sound simple to you, but I'm a beginner in this, so please be
forgiving.
I have a following problem: two analytes were measured in patient's
blood on 4 occasions: ProteinA and ProteinB. How to correctly evaluate
correlation between ProteinA and ProteinB?
I tried:
x <- data.frame(Patient.ID=rep(1:10, each=4), Visit=rep(c(1:4),10),
ProteinA=rnorm(m=10,

Can someone please help me in identifying the type of plot shown here?
Sample R code or specific package name would be of help as well.
