bitstream problem: resyncing...
This one really has me stumped. I'm running 866MHz, 256MB RAM, 80GB Disk (7200RPM) on Linux-mandrake 8.2 icecast 1.3.12 & ices 0.2.3 & lame 3.91 all mp3s encoded with lame 3.91 or higher and --r3mix (VBR) Sorry for the long email but I'm hoping to get someone out there that's seen this before and give me some advice... I'm continually getting errors like this when running

...ting community at large, including the Internet community. It is the intention of the Ogg developers represented by Xiph.Org that it be usable without intellectual property concerns. This document describes the Ogg bitstream format and how to use it to encapsulate one or several media bitstreams created by one or several encoders. The Ogg transport bitstream is designed to provide framing, error protection and seeking structure for higher-level codec streams that consist of raw, unencapsulated data packets, such as the Vorbis audio codec or the upcoming Tarkin and Theora video...

Changes to Ogg format IETF I-D
...there are any more change requests, please send me wording proposals as it's easier to include. :) Monty, in case you are doing any changes to Ogg Version 0, such as specifying more clearly the granule_pos format or how the temporal synchronisation between different concurrently multiplexed bitstreams has to work, you'd better tell us now. The IETF has a closing data of Monday, 3rd March for submission of I-Ds for their next meeting. At that meeting they will move the Ogg file format I-D to RFC provided I submit an update on time. I really like this document now and I hear it's alre...

bitstream versioning
...illian's suggestion, which is pretty much standard practice, is to add a bitstream revision number. Another suggestion was to move to a tag structure, where parameters are tagged with text ID's; this would allow additional parameters to be added to the bitstream spec transparently to older bitstreams. These two suggestions are not mutually exclusive, though I am suggesting we not include an explicit revision number in the normal way. My objection to the typical revision number field is as follows. Take for example Mau's request for a clip length field. To add that to the spec in the tra...

Re: RFC3533
Hi John, I'm forwarding this email to the relevant developer lists at Xiph.Org, where the format was created and where the experts gather. I'm certain there is a design reason for putting the bos pages of all logical bitstreams together at the start. My guess is that with digital media you usually have a delay time for setting up the decoders for a specific format and by clustering the required set-up information at the beginning of the bitstream you can get the se-up done without delaying decoding, potentially even i...

Bitstream freeze
Hello, I´m just curious: How far is Theora from a bitstream freeze? From TheoraTodo: "Derf has come up with a number of suggestions for improving the flexibility of the bitstream based on his experimental encoder work. These will be implemented, if not entirely supported by the reference decoder, before alpha 3 is released." Are those changes supposed to be the last adjustments?

theora release todos
...API changes, so freezing the bitstream is the critical step to ensure confidence that "yes, this player supports theora". Note that I'm specifically describing the logical bitstream format here. The current players that support theora can play theora+vorbis and theora+speex physical bitstreams (true for at least xine and vlc). I suggest we freeze the logical bitstream as soon as possible and release the implementation as alpha3. 2. Reference implementation tools These are pretty much ready to go, and are useful both as reference code and useful tools. 2.1 Encoder Currently, the enc...

digital silence; not bug?
Greg, I just tried encoding digital silence; I'm seeing [roughly] 0kbps like I should be with the mainline. How did you run your test? notfish% head --bytes=10000k /dev/zero > ! zero.raw snotfish% ./encoder_example < zero.raw > zero.ogg snotfish% chaining_example < zero.ogg Input bitstream contained 1 logical bitstream section(s). Ogg bitstream spec question
Hi, Is it expected that an Ogg logical bitstream might logically serve as the physical bitstream from which other logical bitstreams might be demuxed? I am not sure that I really see the point of doing this, but it would certainly be possible within the current spec. The trouble is that there are any number of ways to do the low-level muxing of several streams into one logical stream, with respect to paging and packetizati...

support for kate bitstreams
Hi, would you be interested in a patch to support kate bitstreams ? Kate is a bitstream format for text data that can be muxed in ogg, here presumably alongside a Theora video. It can be used to carry subtitles, and several separate streams can be muxed concurrently (eg, for subtitles in several languages). More info about Kate can be found there: http://wiki.x...
