Help 2.2.5 causing me to run out of filedescriptors
I've been running Samba & Squid on a RH linux server for years. I'm currently running: kernel - 2.4.9-31 squid - 2.4STABLE-6 /home - 100 GB Reiserfs partition I just upgraded samba from 2.0.10 to 2.2.5 this morning. change_trust_account_password failing
samba 2.2.4 on RedHat 7.1 everything is working. wbinfo -t reports a good secret. users can access shares. the samba server shows up in the browser & server manager. However, this server is not able to change the password on it's machine account. I log the following errors once a day: May 29 08:16:33 rhtemp1 smbd[5056]: domain_client_validate: unable to fetch domain sid. May 29

Is 2.2.3/4 as reliable as 2.0.10?
I've been using 2.0.x on my servers for a couple of years & am a very, very happy customer (thanks Samba team). There are only 2, albiet small, annoyances. 1) Any account administration results in changes having to be made on both the NT domain & linux server. 2) I can't do permissions for a "group of groups" on the linux server. It seems that winbind might be able to

strange ACLs from NT
2.05a on redhat 6.0 I have specified a create mask = 600. However, when I look at permissions of the files via NT explorer, the group and Everyone have Special Access = O, the right to Take Ownership. Same for directories. Why is this? thanks.

viewing connections
I'm a new Samba user running 2.05a. How do I view the # of connections to a share? That is, what is the equivalent to NT's Server Manager -> Shares?

Virus scanner not scanning files on samba share
Right now, on our NT servers, I scan the users' directories nightly for viruses. I've set up samba 2.05a on a linux server (rh 6.1). I've moved a couple of users over for testing. Everything seems to be working great. However, I cannot get our virus scanner (Dr Solomon) to scan files on the samba shares. It recognizes the share, recognizes the files, but reports 0 out of nnn were

REPEAT: hasn't anyone used smbclient linux->linux?
I cannot get smbclient or smbmount to work from linux -> linux. I'm running 2.05a on Red Hat 6.x servers. I can use NT shares from linux. I can use samba shares from NT & 95. Is there some trick to getting this to work between linux machines?

does 2.0.6 fix kill -HUP logrotation?
2.0.5 (on linux) has a small annoyance in that, when the log files get rotated, kill -HUP won't point the daemons to the new log files. They keeps logging to the old ones until they are stopped/started. Does 2.0.6 fix this?

2.06 server showing as released in WINS
Running 2.06 on rh 6.1. I've got a couple of samba servers here. One works flawlessly. The other occasionally (every 3 or 4 weeks) will not renew it's name in the WINS database. The only difference I can find is that the problem one is on a different subnet than the WINS server (an NT box). When I look at the WINS db, the lease for the samba server is showing as released (-). A smb

issue with long domain names and winbindd_cache
I just started testing 2.2.4 (with winbind) and am looking for advice on a couple of issues. 1. This isn't really a winbind issue, just my *nix ignorance... our domain name is longer than 8 chars. Therefore, the owner & group of every file (ls -l) shows up the same. I have to ls -ln, then grep the results of getent group|passwd to look up the desired number. Not the end of the world, but
