A barrage of unexplained timeouts
We''ve been running unicorn-3.6.2 on REE 1.8.7 2011.12 in production for quite some time and we use monit to monitor each unicorn worker. Occasionally, I''ll get a notification that a worker has timed-out and has been re-spawned. In all these cases, when I look at the rails logs, I can see the last request that the worker handled, and they all have appeared to complete

[RFC] Preferred error/note style across non-clang tools, e.g. tablegen
...These new ones merely maintain existing behavior of exiting after the diagnostic. Seems this objection is an objection to how it already behaves, and not to the changes Iām proposing.
I may be missing something, but we'll discuss the patch in its review. However, unless an error results in a barrage of errors because something crucial was broken, I'd rather see all error messages. Sometimes, building is tedious (e.g., batch system), so I'd rather be aware of all issues and fix them before trying another build.
Thank you,

Move servers public/private keys to a new host
...will fail
if it gets ANY response it doesn't understand.
Many (most) of our Windows users use various GUI CVS clients that often
hide any output plink might display, but even if they DO happen to see any
output, 99% wouldn't know what to do based on the error.
I'm trying to avoid a barrage of tech support calls the day after the
server changes.

seq.dates in reverse?
Pardon the barrage of time series related questions, but another issue
I'm trying to solve is how to determine a sequence of dates a la
seq.dates() except going BACKWARDS in time, e.g. if seq.dates()
allowed for the "to" variables to be set alone, rather than the from=.
Ultimately, I'd like to hav...

[LLVMdev] JITted code in multiple threads
...ake the pointer and pass it out to
multiple cores to execute the code I've generated in parallel. This
seems like a problem--if jumping to an address means code will be
munged, then two or more cores trying to jump to that address at the
same time might all try to JIT the stubs, resulting in a barrage of
random code!!
This seems like a very obvious issue, so I'm guessing there is a
simple answer for this. What are peoples' thoughts? Any and all are
appreciated.

DDoS attacks, what can be done?
...modifications on my shorewall firewall during
Sunday to lesson the impact, as they were hammering me
with 180k/5sec traffic both ways (inbound and
outbound).
One of the primary things which helped reduce their
DDoS was enabling "norfc1918" on the interfaces (this
stopped about 95% of the barrage), but I also enabled
routefilter,dropunclean,blacklist and tcpflags.
The blacklist feature unfortunately doesn''t do much
since the source addresses are faked, but I was able
to determine most of the attack was coming from a site
in Taiwan.
The barrage hasn''t stopped and monitor...

Re: New Standard/Daylight time-change dates in rhel4u2 butnot centos4.2?
The laws already exist:
Disturbing the peace,
Misappropriation of public funds,
Prohibition on unfunded mandates.
What's lacking is prosecutors, judges, and juries who
see the politicians as getting in the way of the
statesmen and the people.
To drag this back towards On Topic, it seems to me
that the ntp folks might be petitioned to write up and
submit to the Congress, a paper

turning off IAX registration attempts
I have, in iax.conf the register statement:
register => username:password@iaxtel.com
This causes registration attempts to iaxtel.com for both IAX and IAX2.
Every once in a while there is a packet for port 4569 keeping the IAX2
registration alive. This is fine.
But, I have a barrage of registration attempts to iaxtel on port 5036 for
IAX. Every UDP packet is answered with an ICMP packet claiming
"port unreachable".
I know that iaxtel has turned off IAX, So, how do I turn off the registration
attempts for IAX, for that particular connection? (and keep IAX2)

Is it just me, or is Ruby exploding?
I am being barraged with Ruby, Rails and Rich Internet application

Miami area are turning on to Rails and Ruby -- much of it fueled by

Why does a W2K (pro) client do more than it is asked to do?

Now... my question: Why? What does the W2K client do
that triggers this barrage of rejected authentications

More importantly, is there a way to configure EITHER
the W2K client or the Samba server (or both) to not

Shorewall, PPTP VPN, and Samba
What I''m doing:
I have Shorewall on a SuSE 9.0 machine, which is the firewall/router
on the network. External interface is eth0 172.16.1.1, internal
interface is eth1 10.40.1.1. (I used the Two-interface Linux System
Quickstart Guide). All works well with that configuration. I also use
PPPD for dial-in clients, and have two modems for incoming calls.
Recently I added VPN interface

Normally I see almost no "Disconnected: Inactivity" messages, but when
this problem shows up I get an almost non-stop barrage of them. In
fact, over the 20 minutes or so, there's about 150 of those entries,
so I filtered them out of the log snippets. I also filtered out any
"normal" activity during the time period. Here's what's left:
