Migration from NT4 to W2K3 AD
Are there any gotcha's..... I am currently using winbindd and very successfully integrating my Samba boxes with the NT4 domain structure. The admin who is doing the migration (A corporate person not used to Linux at all) is already nervous about the migration since it involves Linux. Usernames are not supposed to change..but, the authentication domain is going to be a completely new

Joining an AD domain when hostname != netbios name
I'm trying to join a RHEL5 host to an AD domain, and can do this successfully when I set those hostname to the same value as the samba "netbios name" parameter. However, when I try with a hostname != netbios name, it fails. Is it possible to join a machine when the hostname isn't the same as the netbios name? The reason for wanting this is because I have a whole load of servers

winbind debugging help.. act 2
Folks, Not even a peep. Did I ask the wrong question or am I on the wrong list? I don't mind pointers to more information.... I own both the recent books on Samba 3 and they are very good, but I seem to be missing something. Anyways... Thanks and hope to hear from you soon, Michael J Barber WPTZ/WNNE Computer Services Administrator p 518-561-5555 x563 m 518-572-6639 f 518-561-5940

Limit on vector evaluation
Dear R Experts, Why I try to run this expression: x<-sapply(rnorm(rep(10,100000),mean=9,sd=1.5),mean) it evaluates the first 10000 values and then stops, but does not return to the command prompt. My cpu keeps running at 100%. When I exit the expression with CTL-C, I then see that x holds 10000 values. How can I evalute the expression 100000 times, or more if I want? Thanks in advance.

facter fails to detect network interfaces with long names
I have Gentoo host where `ifconfig -a` prints long interface names truncated to 9 chars (there is closed bug report [1]). Unfortunately, `facter` uses `ifconfig -a` output to get list of interface names and because of truncation it generates `interfaces` fact with incorrect interface names. Also it fails to retrieve individual interface information with following message for each interface with

extracting non-NA columns from a data frame
I'm clustering using kmeans, and it doesn't accept NA. if NA occurs in a column of the data frame, it occurs in every column, including column 1. they say that a (good) programmer can write FORTRAN in any language, so I came up with this, where tbl is the data frame containing NA - > newtbl<-NULL > for (i in 1:length(tbl)){if (!is.na(tbl[1,i])){ + newtbl<-if

disappointed with complete lack of help.
I sent a request for help on the 21st of January....I waited.....I sent it again on the 24th....I waited.... I sent the same question crafted differently on the 25th.... I waited. The help on this list is horrible..... I am sorry for whining. I talk up open source regularly and I help when I can..... but, the claim of "better" support from the open source community because there are so

Puppet/Nagios/PuppetDB slow performance
Hi all, For months now I''ve been using Puppet with PuppetDB backend to manage my Nagios configs. We now have 1200+ services being checked and including servicedependency, host, hostdependency, command and other Nagios resources being managed, that''s about 3000 resources in total. Unfortunately this means the monitoring server takes about 8 minutes to perform a Puppet run.

[LLVMdev] Query about ARM support in LLVM MC Project
I have been reading the BLOG about the LLVM MC Project and have a number of queries about ARM support. 1) When is it anticipated that the ARM assembler will reach production quality? 2) Is the complete ARMv7 ISA supported? 3) Is the syntax used by the ARM assembler/disassembler that used by GAS or are there incompatibilities? 4) What is the current state of the ARM instruction parser and
