Dovecot stones
...A small Dovecot stone can be bought for 10 euros, a medium sized stone for 100 euros and a large stone for 500 euros. Each large stone can usually handle around 1000-2000 users before you need to buy more. If you have millions of users we'll need to find you a larger rock from my parents' backyard. There are only a limited number of such rocks available (we disposed of most of them to our neighbors' yards years ago), so their prices need to be negotiated in advance.

Rails to Java
Hello, I just started playing with RubyOnRails. It is indeed fascinating! I have a question about using rails models to connect to backend Java (i.e. EJBs) instead of database. Any pointers will be appreciated. Thanks and Regards, Khaled -- Posted via http://www.ruby-forum.com/.

soccer
...old and I'm going to be a sophomore. I'm thinking of trying out for the soccer team. I'm not trying to get on varsity or junior varsity, but I don't want to look like an idiot on the field. I just want to know how to get better at soccer over this summer. I have a soccer goal in my backyard. Just some passing routines and running routines will be fine.

RJB in Rails - setting JAVA_HOME correctly in environment.rb
All, I am attempting to use RJB (Java-Ruby Bridge - see: http://arton.no-ip.info/collabo/backyard/?RubyJavaBridge) in my Rails app. The documentation says: "Both LD_LIBRARY_PATH and JAVA_HOME setting required in environment.rb file of RoR." However, it doesn''t say _how_ to set these variables in environment.rb. I''ve tried JAVA_HOME = ''path_to_java_home...

Asterisk and Welltech USB SIP phone K1000A
Hi all I'm fairly new to Asterisk, so be nice :-) I was wondering if anyone has been able to get the Welltech K1000A USB phone working on Linux. I see audio and HID drivers loaded when it is plugged in to my Fedora Core 1 laptop, but that's about all that happens. I've searched all the usual places (FAQ, Google, etc) but not found anything helpful. Asterisk is working fine with

Getting started developing for Wine.
Hi, I'm a Windows developer and recent Linux convert! The Wine project is very interesting to me, and instead of just waiting around for others to make improvements, I'd really like to start investigating and making my own fixes to some of my favorite Windows applications so that I can enhance the Wine experience, as well as become more familiar with Linux (and open source) development in

calling R from C or C++
Hi, I have C/C++ code from which I wish I could call R to do something useful. I saw a 2003 message by Thomas saying that "You can compile R as a shared library, which allows you to construct and evaluate R expressions from C." Any more information would be helpful. I am looking for some documentation that has a more step by step like instructions. Anyone who has experience, please

text search engine ?
Hi there, What are you using for text search engine in your rails applications ? I have been using simple search for simple applications, but then I need to search text in model instances inside collections such as user.documents and the like. I believe that simple search does not support any sort of ranged queries, and sql like might be overkill for tables with lots of records. Bests, Sergi

[LLVMdev] GCC and LLVM collaboration: Cauldron's feedback
...will *have* to use the common denominator, which has to be *at least* the language standard. But this also means that if we start adding bells and whistles, we may never get it widely used if we don't discuss this on the shared committee and get it accepted somewhere more generic than our own backyard. 4. Shared features, different behaviour ============================= I think there was general agreement that any feature we discuss and propose, can't be enforced in any way. One thing is to accept that a feature makes sense, another is what do you think is the best implementation, or eve...

Mac OSX (10.5) & wine w/ OpenGL - Info & Issues
Firstly, hello everyone! I'v been using wine under OSX for some time, using macports to install it and it works quite nicely (except for an issue with windows sliding down the screen, which can be fixed by setting a desktop area in winecfg). Sadly I'v not been able to get OpenGL support working. (I am using OSX 10.5.4 with XQuartz (http://xquartz.macosforge.org/trac/wiki) 2.3.0, which is

So, this search thing...
I am using ferret right now, and it works great for all my regular text documents/information. My problem arises when I want to index/search all of our assets (mostly pdf files). Currently, there is no way to READ pdfs from Ruby. Because of this I have to resort to using Java to read the PDF''s and then Lucene to index them. My problem here is a couple things. One, to index a asset I have

Talking to Java APIs
I''m trying to figure out how Ruby in general, and/or anything extra Rails may have, can talk to Java APIs of third party server apps. After quite a few search attempts net-wide and on ruby forums, and with "Programming Ruby" in hand, I''m coming up with zilch. Either I''m not finding it, or I''m not recognizing it. I''m assuming there has
