LPRng: RedMon - interesting program (fwd)
Hi Everyone,
Just thought I'd pass this little snippette your way. It may help someone
to get around the limitations of M$ Windoze printing.

Solving equations in R
Hi there,
I would like to solve the following equation in R to estimate 'a'. I have
the amp, d, x and y.
amp*y^2 = 2*a*(1-a)*(-a*d+(1-a)*x)^2
test data:
amp = 0.2370 y=
0.0233 d=
0.002 x=
0.091
Can anyone suggest how I can set this up?
Thanks,
Diviya

avoiding termination of nls given convergence failure
Hello. I have a script in which I repeatedly fit a nonlinear regression to
a series of data sets using nls and the port algorithm from within a loop.
The general structure of the loop is:
for(i in 1:n){
… extract relevant vectors of dependent and independent variables …
… estimate starting values for Amax and Q.LCP…

Printer Pool
Is there a way in samba to create a printer pool like you can do with NT?
I have two HP Network Printers (4000N) which I can setup and print to from
Win95, no problem. But I want to make the most "efficient" use of the
printers, as they are in a lab, sitting right next to each other...
Thanks...

SAMBA 2.2.3a <-> LPRng 3.8.x
hi you all,
I had this problem for a long time and with different versions of SAMBA
and LPRng:
using '/usr/spool/lp/bin/lpr -r -Fl -m%m -J"%J" -U%U -P%p %s'
as 'print command' results in two jobs in the queue window on the NT box,
though there is only one job in the unix queue.
using '/usr/spool/lp/bin/lpr -r -Fl -m%m -U%U -P%p %s'
works fine, but delete

Anyone successfully using a HP 8000 DN or HP 5 Lsi (with JetDirect module
and assigned IP) with samba?
Subject says it all. If you're successfully doing this, what configs made
it work? FAQs
tell how to set up with a print server, but what if the printer itself is
the server? Trust me,
the HP doesn't know jack about port 139.

Setting UP An IP Printer
I have asked this question twice now, but I'm giving in one last chance.
I'm new to the Linux/Samba world and would like to move my print servers
over to Samba. Before I can do that, I need to do some testing. Before I
can do any testing, I need to figure out how to install an IP printer in
Linux.
Any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Daniel

LPRng: FW: my printers are still paused in Win2k and WinNT 4.0
It's not only the name, I just found out...
I have an OfficeJet 570,
and the following entry in my smb.conf would
result in a persistent Paused status:
[HP570]
comment = OfficeJet 570 by HP450C Plotter
path = /var/spool/samba/hp570
writeable = no
printable = yes
printer name = hp570
use client driver = no

'R' library for Rasch modelling?
I'm new to 'R', so forgive me if I've used the wrong term.
I'd like to model some Likert-style items using Rasch methods.
I've been unable to find mention of these for 'R'. Would someone happen to
know of any?
Thanks in any case.

smbclient no connect NetShareEnum failed
Running recent cvs from head branch, attempting to list shares on a
machine running win2k. Can anyone tell what is wrong here.
It does have several shares including a printer. I can connect with:
smbclient /chub/SHARE -U Adminstrator (and get prompted for password)

Printing to Samba 2.0.7 from Windows 2000
Hi,
I've recently installed LPRng 3.6.22, ifhp 3.3.19, and
Samba 2.0.7 on my FreeBSD 4.1 system. Printing works
fine from the FreeBSD machine, and I am able to access
shares via my Win2000 machine. I've configured a
[printers] section in smb.conf, and I am able to see
the LaserJet 2100 when browsing, but on installing it
I am unable to print to it. I get en error connecting

Using AR.connection.execute(sql) -- messing with my string?
Does ActiveRecord.connection.execute(string) perform any modifications
on the given string? If so, what quoting do I need to add?
Here''s why: I''m trying to use execute(string) to load a stored
procedure. I can hand-load the procedure without error (i.e. via
dbconsole), but when I call the function below, it throws the error:

Favorite print command for SAMBA on Sol 2.5.1
I am having problems with the HP printers that are being handled by a
Solaris 2.5.1 machine. The boring details are towards the end.
The SAMBA print command I currently use is:
print command = echo %u - %s to %p at %T >> /tmp/smb-print.log ; \
lpr -P %p %s ; \
rm %s
;
These are EXACTLY the way they are in the smb.conf file. The server will
print 99.9% of

smbclient does not show.....
Hi,
this is a new user who is trying to reach the local network, managed by a windows NT server. I have edited my smb.conf
file (which I include) so to be able to reach the network drives and the printers on the ntserver locally. When I try to
see what is available using smbclient at the prompt, I cannot see which are the Services available (sharename fields
empty), but I do see a lot of things
