Application logic
Hi all I''ve done a few tutorials and small simple apps and would now like to make a somewhat larger application at my college to take student assesments. I just can''t figure out where some application logic should go... Maybe someone could give me some pointers? This is what I want to do: a student or teacher logs in on the site. A student can take an assesment of 70 questions (always the same 70 questions) or will see the results of his...

Life Cycle Assessment with R.
...bout climate change and how many institutions around the globe are looking for softwares solutions in order to achieve they (and everyone) needs to improve life conditions in all the planet. Currently, they're many comercial softwares working with this important topic named as: "Life Cycle Assesment", monitoring carbon emition,  but as many of you may know, commercial softwares controlling or managing our planet could be another big mistake. To sum up briefly, it could be a good idea creating a R package doing Life Cycle Assessment (if has not being created) in order to gain a better unde...

[PATCH] drm/gem: Expose the buffer object handle to userspace last
...w_gem_object_open implement no-op hooks so no impact for them. A bunch of other require a deeper look by individual owners to asses for impact. Those are lima_gem_object_open, nouveau_gem_object_open, panfrost_gem_open, radeon_gem_object_open and virtio_gpu_gem_object_open. Putting aside the risk assesment of the above, some common scenarios to think about are along these lines: 1) Userspace closes a handle by speculatively "guessing" it from a second thread. This results in an unreachable buffer object so, a memory leak. 2) Same as 1), but object is in the process of getting closed (fai...

R on Google Android
Hi. As a follow-up on [1], I'd like to raise the question of whether it's practically possible to compile R to the Google Android mobile platform? The best way would probably be to use the Native Developer Kit [2], NDK, and in that way get a library. This could then be interfaced to by a Java-program. I know that several questions have been raised against the idea, e.g. with the input

User-defined functions in rpart
...nction(y, wt, x, parms, continuous) (split function) The problem is that there seems to be no facility to include an X matrix (in the split function, x is a vector corresponding to one predictor). Without that, fitting a linear model in the terminal node would not be possible. Is this a correct assesment, or am I missing something? Has anyone tried to modify rpart to fit linear models in nodes? -- -- -- Hugh Chipman -- -- Associate Professor, Department of Statistics & Actuarial Science -- -- U. of Waterloo, 200 University Ave. W, Waterlo...

Samba public IP issue
Hello, I am running two Samba Domain Controllers on as Ubuntu 18.04 VMs installed on two physical hosts. I've managed to bind them and to run the replication. My issues is that the private IP address is advertised and the replication fails. Even though I update the DNS entry? after a few minutes the changes are overwritten and the replication fails again. Can someone help me with this

unconditionally enable the trace buffer
Last month Mark Williamson sent out a patch to unconditionally enable the trace buffer. I''d like to suggest that his patch be accepted and merged. I have performed some simple benchmarks to quantify the overhead associated with the trace buffer and calls, and found a negligable performance loss due to them. The actual number was .069%, and was gotten by timing a simple cpu-intensive

Samba public IP issue
...ror, in my personal opinion, in the resolving setup. :-/ And thats why i hammer on a correct resolving setup. But he could also add VPN this setup, and will help in fixing it also, Or Andrew's suggestion. Multiple options here. Only thing is, we know to little of the setup to make a good assesment for him. S-98-51: Squid cache corruption alert (fwd)
...: 6-Aug-98 =============================================================================== By courtesy of AUSCERT we received information on a problem with the 1.NOVM version of the popular Squid web caching tool. This problem can result in web pages looking corrupted. CERT-NL agrees with the assesment of AUSCERT that this is not a security problem per se. However, the corrupted web pages caused by this problem might be mistakenly regarded as a sign of a possible intrusion. CERT-NL therefore strongly recommends that sites running the Squid 1.NOVM web caching server, apply the patches or workarou...

Recommendations on a WiFi phone for *?
We're getting our feet more and more wet with VOIP at work. We want to experiment with a good wireless (as in WiFi) phone. What would be a good phone to impress my boss with? I'm personally drooling over the UTStarcom F3000, but compatibility and shipping ETA info is a bit sketchy. Phil

Ruby''s purpose?
Before I get flamed, I just want to start off by saying that I am new to Ruby and I really enjoy this language and want to see it succeed. But, what niche does this language fill? These are serious question, not a put down of the language. Does it has something to offer for Web 2.0? Is it just another scripting language? Does it suppose to replace something else? Does it suppose to work with
