The core issue in the /var/run thread is one of lack of civility. There is a civil way of calling someone to see their need for further thought and investigation; calling someone 'stupid' or 'an idiot' over something as small as /var/run directory persistence is, to my mind at...

REALTIME and VARIABLES
Hi, I'm having some problem with realtime: let's say I have a dialplan like this [globals] IPPHONES=_3XX [sip] exten=>${IPPHONES},1,Answer A call from ip phone 300 comes in, and it's been answered. Then I "switch" the sip context to realtime, putting the exten in the db and using the variable name for this as in the file version. [globals] IPPHONES=_3XX [sip]

Hey Lamar, long time no see.? It's been a real long time actually, left ERC in late 2009 after 3 surgeries on my feet and couldn't walk enough to do anything useful (ended up having 2 more, an elbow rebuilt and just had surgery #7 to reconstruct a knee).? Cisco 2620 as PRI gateway
I just inherited a Cisco 2621 with a VWIC-1MFT-T1 card in it. Can I make this thing into MGCP gateway or even a SIP gateway for asterisk? Seems like it should bee useful for something! I'm perfectly happy to do my homework, but also don't feel thee need to reinvent the wheel! So, links with relevant info would be appreciated. If there is a config for a 2621 being used as a gateway

Flame war police
Hiya everyone, Is there a way to disable a thread that has degenerated into flaming? The recent "discussion" on /var/run descended into some quite nasty places and perhaps a lid should have been put on it. This seems to happen every few weeks and is somewhat embarrassing when I'm trying to persuade people of the "active and friendly Centos community" It was a shame that

Looking for starting point?
Hi, I am a retired telephone tech/manager who recently had a bad experience with a local company offering digital phone service (VoIP). I have spent the last thirty years in the PSTN network, switching, PBX and key system field and am interested in learning more about VoIP. My background also includes programming, mostly specialized applications to interact with the PSTN network. Most of my

Red Hat CEO: Go Ahead, Copy Our Software
http://www.businessinsider.com/red-hat-ceo-go-ahead-copy-our-software-2013-8 Title says is all. Nice to know RH understands and accepts the relationship between CentOS and RHEL. Although it is complex. After all, if too many choose CentOS, there may no longer be a CentOS. However, I don't think I would refer to CentOS as a "parasite" as the author Matt Asay does. A Follow up to my fedora question: Favorite Flavor Of Linux?
Than my question is this? Now that I have switchtowerized and migrate enabled my app I can start down a new path if need be on a different OS as the base of the system. We have already tried CentOS and found it to have more issues than those mentioned about fedora and through it away faster than one could shake a stick at. Here are our requirements for a stage/dev box and production:

Hi all - I'm building an Asterisk system (Trix2.2) for the house- I'd like to do the following things: I have a single phone line (happens to be Charter Communications VOIP, but I have their ATA and they've connected to red/green pair in the house wiring) What I'd like to do is this: Get some low-end but reliable card/external adapter which would connect to

Asterisk and ATA-186 question-- calling one port from the other port..
Hi - I need to configure Asterisk (Trixbox 2.2) and my ATA-186 with both ports. I need to be able to call one port from the other-- the idea is to have two phones in two different locations that _can_ call each other. So, in reading the Asterisk Wiki and other sites, the best documentation I found was this: http://www.loligo.com/asterisk/Cisco/ATA-186-guide.v20030628.txt
