Stepwise regression
...for being included in the model, and the one with the
lowest p among these gets chosen, and the step is repeated until all p
values not in the model are above 0.05, cf Hosmer and Lemeshow (1989)
Applied Logistic Regression. The procedure does not require examination of
the AIC.
I am not well aquainted with R enough to understand the codes used in
step(), so can somebody tell me how step() works?
Thanks very much,
Tim

Zaptel 'Under the Hood' Project
...prodding at Asterisk and Zaptel for over a couple years
now, I've dedicated some time to actually reading the code and trying to
figure it out.
It's been fascinating. With the driver source on one part of the screen
and a pdf of "Linux Device Drivers" on another part I've aquainted
myself with device driver programming and the interesting hardware on
the wildcards. I've always thought Asterisk and Zaptel were two of the
coolest FOSS projects around and now that I've
spelunked through the code a little bit I'm curious:
Has anyone ever wrote a zaptel "under...

multiple instances?
...ne instance of icecast? I tried installing a 2nd instance of icecast (folder name icecast2) and adjusted the xml files to accommodate a 2nd port but it doesn't seem to be working.
I should add that outside of port 8080 (the apparent default), icecast has failed to work for me. (I am quite well aquainted with forwarding ports on routers). I am not sure WHY it doesn't work for me on other ports though unless this is a hard coded issue.
Please fill me in one way or another.
I would really prefer to host my own streams instead of using some corporate data miner. (I stream 2 stations as a hobby)...

Also I get the following strange error:
chan_sip.c: That's odd... Got a response on a call we dont know about.

I can't seem to pin it down. I've checked the source (chan_sip.c) and
because I'm not well aquainted with the protocol, I'm about as clueless as
could be as to what its telling me.
Unfortunately its a headless box, and so by the time I can log in through
PuTty/whatever and fire up asterisk -r, the call is long gone. On the
other hand, with my not so bountiful skills, I'm not sure how much...

Authoring a book
Me and some colleagues are planning to write a textbook together
("Statistics using R") where the target audience for the book is
psychologists and students of psychology.
We thought that it might be a good idea to use a Wiki when writing the
text. Is that a good idea? Does anybody have any experience in that
direction? What alternatives are there?
The tool (Wiki) would have to be

The Letor project involves descent amount of Machine Learning while all the
ranking related projects are around IR. Its better to introduce your idea
on mailing list where all the mentors can have a detailed look at it,
potential mentors can respond and the idea is kind of registered under your
name.
Cheers,
Parth.

IBM invests $ 10^9 in Linux, maybe they'll sponsor Vorbis?
Hello Vorbis developers,
you probably had the same idea already, but maybe IBM
is interested in sponsoring Vorbis, or being your patron.
If they are going to invest $ 10^9 in Linux, protecting
vorbis from harm, and possible injecting resources into
that project would be peanuts to them.
I don't know if IBM does anything with multimedia, but
they could only gain if strong technology in that

State of IceCast2?
I've done checkouts from CVS as outlined on the page. Checking out module
'icecast' from cvs.icecast.org and then executing ./autogen.sh causes the
icecast code to indicate "Building icecast-1.3.12..." and there is no
HACKING file in sight. Is the icecast2 source on another branch? Another
module? I'm having the damnedest time finding the active development
branch...

Residential services
Hi folks,
The obligatory newbie disclaimer:
"Hi, I'm new to Asterisk and I have a couple questions..."
OK, now that that's over with:
I've just started working for a small CLEC, and I'm trying to sell * to
my boss as a replacement for some expensive/inflexible/closed-source
software he's been using to provide residential dialtone with for a
couple years now.

Why does it appear that dovecot is deleting messages after migration?
Hi, y'all, long-time Mac OS X Server user Bill here with a thorny question for the mailing list since nobody at discussions.apple.com can quite put their finger on the answer. While well-aquainted with other aspects of Server, Dovecot is a bit of a mystery still to me. So here it goes:
Background
I'm struggling to migrate from MacOS X 10.6 to 10.9. I tried twice using the "live server in target disk mode" method, but after things went horribly awry (meaning I was left with no...

[JOB] at yakimaherald.com
...Rails, for everything!
The paper is willing to accept applications from people who would
need relocation and would help them with the move as well. You would
continue work on my largets rails application to date http://
yakimaherald.com . And I would be working with you remotely to get
you aquainted with the code base here and all that.
This is a great job as the lead developer. You get to choose your
own technologies and implement things as you see fit. You don''t have
to be a master rails programmer to apply either, there are not a lot
of rails aware people here in Yakima so...
