[OT maybe] netcafe firewall
Hi all, I appologise in advance if this is a little OT, but I am building a box that will serve as firewall and router for a small ''internet cafe / netcafe'' and am using CentOS... So here it is: What are the best tools to be used for keeping the potential script kiddies from ''harming the Internet'' :) ? I specifically want to be able to detect and prevent

Tiny help for tiny function
I just started to write tiny functions and therefore I appologise in advance if I am asking stupid question. I wrote a tiny function to give me back from the original matrix, a matrix showing only the values smaller -0.8 and bigger 0.8. y<-c(0.1,0.2,0.3,-0.8,-0.4,0.9) x<-c(0.5,0.3,0.9,-0.9,-0.7,0.3) XY<-rbind(x,y) extract.values<-function (x) { if(x>=0.8|x<=-0.8)x

Opening files from R terminal - appologies
Dear all, I appologise for cluttering up the list with such a basic question, however I have been unable to find the answer I want (possibly through my poor usage of the R help system). As I am visually impaired and using assistive technology, I think I would prefer to use R from the terminal mode, i.e. by running rterm.exe found in the bin directory. I have managed to set my working

Number of components in a mixture model
Dear all, I'm fitting a set of length-of-stay data by a model of mixture of exponentials. I've been following the example on page 436 in MASS (5th Ed.). However, I have a couple of questions while following this example. What if we don't know how many components there are in the model in advance. Is there any established method to determine the number of components from a set of

Correlation dichotomous factor, continous (numerical) and ordered factor
Hello R-User! I appologise in advance if this should also go into statistics but I am presently puzzled. I have a data.frame (about 300 rows and about 80 variables) and my variables are dichotomous factors, continuous (numerical) and ordered factors. I would like to calculate the linear correlation between every pair of my variables, because I would like to perform a logistic regression (glm())

i appologise for the trivialness of this post - but i've been searching the forum wothout luck - probably simply because it's late and my brain is starting to go.. i have a frequency table as a matrix: orig<-matrix(c(40,5,30,25), c(2,2)) orig [,1] [,2] [1,] 40 30 [2,] 5 25 i basically need a random sample say 10 from 100: [,1] [,2] [1,] 5 2 [2,] 0 3 i

iproute2 and kernel 2.6.1/2
Hi there I''ve searched the archives and googled for a solution with no success - has anyone successfully built iproute2 under kernel 2.6.1, or 2.6.2? I''ve tried various releases, each compile aborting with different errors. If this is wishful thinking at this stage, does anyone have a suitable solution for the "Routing for multiple uplinks" scenario? ie. traffic

[LLVMdev] X86_thiscall
Hi everyone, I have some problems with gettings the X86_thiscall calling convention to work. I am new to LLVM, so if this is the wrong place for this question then I appologise, please tell me where to go instead. I am generating code to call a member function of a class compiled with Microsoft Visual C++ using the JIT compiler. The following code is used to register the pointer to the

Subsetting data by date
Hi all, Firstly I appologise if this question has been answered previously, however searching of the archives and the internet generally has not yielded any results. I am looking in to the effects of summer weather conditions (temperature, humidity etc), on the incidences of a breathing disorder brought on through smoking (COPD). I am fairly new to R and completely new to the idea of

Password Login Failing... (Not sure this went through)
Appologise if this did make it to the list but I just subscribed and didn't see it come back... I am attmepting to install ssh/sshd on my RH6.1 Intel Box. Everything seems to be working (not quite smooth sailing - I had to resort to precompiled RPM for OpenSSL). I did however get it "working." I generated a host key as root and then changed back to joe-user. I created a key for

Okay I'm stumped.
I have a very weird issue with isolinux. I create disks with a bootsector, kernel etc. The CD's boot fine on most machines, but on a significant number the bios just completely ignores them. Yet these same bios's boot a number of linux CD's all using isolinux. Moreover a lot of time the same bios will fail with a CD, yet boot the same iso if it's burned onto a DVD. The only

Help on legacy hardware.
Howdy, I appologise in advance if this is not the correct forum for this message. Bought an ACT Networks NetPerformer SDM-9350 Voice/Data router off ebay ('cause it was cheap and has 4 E&M/FXO/FXS configurable ports.), now I need to get it to work. 2 problems: 1) No documentation - I've searched high and low and found very little. Does anyone have any for this router? 2) I've

NTW4 Auto connecting to unix home directory on logon
I appologise as this is probably an FAQ but I have read the FAQ's and have been unsuccessfull in finding a solution. I have a Solaris 2.5 server running the latest version of samba (can't remember the version no. but was only downloaded on Friday). I have set up a homes share and would like to connect my NT workstations to it. I have been able to connect by specifying the username and

Could this be a rights issue?
I'm pretty new to Samba, so I appologise if this is a really dumb question, but I can't find a way through it. I have created a samba share on my Linux box for the users home directory, and can map a drive to the share from W2K clients and see/open all the files, the problems arise when I try and edit or create files, from the W2k client. If I attempt to create a file through windows

extended attributes, samba and OS2
Hi, I appologise if this totally irritates people as there seems to be quite a lot of info about this issue but a lot of it is quite old, for samba 2.x and kernels around 2.0 also. I have been beating my head against it for a little while - bumped into a dead end now ;( I am running centos-3 x86_64 (RH ES equiv) with samba 3.0.7-1 as the server, and OS2 as the client. Kernel is 2.4.21-20.EL.

test platform - samba + ldap issue smbldap-useradd hangs
Hello Guys, About a week ago I wrote in with a issue with smbldap-populate; it wouldn't populate because it was missing some packages. This has since been resolved. I am running redhat 9 on a test server, just for more experience really; I am using redhat 9 because of a scsi raid driver needed, please do not ask about this. Ok so here is where I am at> I have been using Samba 3 by
