format for tick labels
Running R 1.2.3, Windows 98
I checked the archives, and I couldn't find anything pertaining to this:
How do I control format (scientific notation versus decimal, e.g.) on tick
labels?
TIA,
Henry

Repost: Why is rails generating bad SQL?
It looks like I am missing something obvious. ActiveRecord is
generating _really_ bad SQL for this configuration, and I can''t quite
figure it out.
I''ve instrumented ActiveRecord enough to localize the problem somewhat,
and generally by this time I would have a good idea of what I was
missing because it''s all in the source.
It appears that something in

Sieve not recognizing keywords
First, I've been lurking and using dovecot for a few years now and I've
always liked it, great piece of software! :)
I've finally decided to clean up my act here and get virutal users and
get postfix (2.3), dovecot (1.0.0) and deliver to play nice, using
postfixadmin. I have it 99% there, but one thing is left:
When I receive mails, deliver finds my virtual home dir and then tries

POP Question
After upgrading to Alpha 4 I have two people complaining about a POP
problem. Aparently they are getting their email sent to them over and
over. They have it set to "leave messages on server" but apparently
whatever keeps track of that is broken.
So - how is it determined with POP what is new and what is read?

Unknown dict module: db
Using dovecot-1.1beta1 I get "Unknown dict module: db"
when starting up dovecot. In dovecot.conf I've got the
"expire_dict = db:/var/lib/dovecot/expire.db" statement
in the plugin{} section. Aparently required when the
"expire" plugin is enabled. dovecot is built with
"--with-db" and db-devel is present at compile time.
Any ideas anyone?
Cheers

Okay, what gives? find_by_id is failing.
This has the look of a "just don''t quite get it yet" problem. I am
using the ActiveRecord.find_by_id method to identify the parent object
(Quiz) to tie to the child object (Question) at create time.
Here is the stdout log:

Samba-LDAP too imature for production?
2.2.7a
It seems that samba-ldap is still to immature for any kind of production
environment. The provided Perl scripts simply do not work with the 'add
user script' setting or if they do, then there is an an undocumented
bug, issue, etc. The scripts work fine from the command line but
aparently samba won't execute them properly. Since I cannot expect my
users to understand

Problems with help.start()
Hello there,
I've just installed R for Windows 1.8.0 and I'm experiencing problems with
help.start().
It opens the help page as it supposed to do, then I go to "Search Engine &
Keywords", but when I click anything there, it returns me a (aparently)
JavaScript error, something like "The object does not support this method or
property".
The Search Engine doesn't

How to fit a linear model to data by minimizing the mean absolute percent error?
Hi All,
I wonder if you can help me with an aparently simple task. I have been searching examples for this without any luck:
#Assume
x<-1:10 #x ranges from 1 to 10.
y<-x*runif(10)+ 1.5*x #y is a linear function of x with some error. Add uniform error that is scaled to be larger as x values also become larger
#error is proportional to x size, this should cause heterocedasticity.
#I

SPSS R-Menu for Ordinal Factor Analysis
Dear all,
I am trying to conduct an enhanced version of factor analysis with a
SPSS interface that allows to use R. This approach has been suggested in
the recent article:
Basto, M. and J.M. Pereira An SPSS R-Menu for Ordinal Factor Analysis.
Journal of Statistical Software 46, pp. 1-29.
My variables are ordinal-type and the tool of Basto allows to run
polychoric correlations in the SPSS

[LLVMdev] llc generated assembly does not work with gcc 3.4.4
Hi,
I've generated a .bc file for a simple program using the clang front
end, the human readable output of llvm-dis looks good.
Running llc on the bc file generates an assembly file (.s using either
att or intel syntax).
Now, when I try to generate an executable with gcc (3.4.4 cygwin) I get
lot's of errors:
$ gcc t.S
t.S: Assembler messages:

Issues booting centos7 [dracut is failing to enable centos/root, centos/swap LVs]
Suggestion: once it's up, rebuild the initramfs.

I tried that already, but still the same problem.
Aparently dracut does not want to activate the LVs required to boot to the
root filesystem, for some reason ...

Postfix and Dovecot SASL - wiki update
I wanted to mention I updated the Postfix and Dovecot SASL wiki entry yesterday.
http://wiki2.dovecot.org/HowTo/PostfixAndDovecotSASL
The entry:
submission inet n - - - - smtpd
was incorrect. It should be:
submission inet n - n - - smtpd
By specifying n for chroot, it ensures that DNS lookups can occur. Otherwise, if you are using reject_unknown_recipient_domain
the following error will

I had my own perfectly functioning dns server using 8.8.8.8 as the
upstream. Aparently I now have to use the Windows DC as the DNS server
to resolve windows host names. I guess

MCMClogit: using weights
Hi everyone: I am just wondering how can I use weights with MCMClogit function (in MCMCpack package). For example, in case of glm function as given below, there is weights option in the arguments. Aparently there is no option of using weights in MCMClogit.
