Idea to possibly improve flac?
...ich of course goes nowhere. It's really just a disservice to themselves and the community. Sad indeed. Have people forgotten what opensource is all about? There are plenty of people capable of doing these two. Certainly ripping. Fork I say. I love these projects, and their authors. So not as an affront to prior authors, but for betterment of the projects, always. And in regards to 'piracy'... I think it's safe to clearly and plainly say that the idea of a band/artist/whatever making their bread on CD sales is long dead. Not only did the labels never care to pay them properly (among o...

On Reproducible Code
We often refer requesters to the Posting Guide and chide them for not reading it. Recently I had occasion to re-read the Posting Guide which is for all R lists not just R-help. The word "reproducible" does not appear anywhere in the guide. The closest it comes is the following suggestion: "Sometimes it helps to provide a small example that someone can actually run."

Ovislink
...e in your UPS is likely an OEM part, and so if you were to ask Ovislink for protocol documentation, they might not have much leverage with the OEM (depending on how many other manufacturers would continue to buy that part without documentation). Publishing the documentation might also be seen as an affront to the company that makes the official software for your UPS, although that software is often free-as-in-beer these days. As a customer, you could still ask for protocol documentation, though. I suspect that many UPS vendors are not familiar with the portion of their customer base that uses Unix-l...

Idea to possibly improve flac?

Due to the fact that more and more users increasingly use MP3 < 320kbps as their source for encoding music, and publish it as flac files, I suggest that something is done in the flac encoder to possible avoid this. My idea is kinda easy/stupid, but might work; Implement a function that use a FFT to check if the input has frequencies > 16kHz, and informs the user that the file
