Best place for authorization management tool?
Hi all, I''m sitting on a home-brew rule-based authorization system that I''d like to release as open source. Its current interface is either the console or raw SQL though, which makes things pretty unfriendly, so I was wondering just what would be the most idiomatic interface to such a system. I was envisioning a "authorization console" in script/ that might

Plotting slowly
Some older members of this list will remember the strange pleasure of seeing a pattern slowly emerge as points were laboriously added to a scatterplot on graph paper. A colleague (Harold Henderson, in fact) recently pointed out to me that there is some quite interesting structure in the abrasion loss data set of O. L. Davies (reprinted in the book by Hand et al) if you consider the order of the data. One way to see this is by adding a column of row numbers to the data and forming a scatterplot matrix and doing a bit of brushing. Harold commented that someone plotting any two of the variab...

Re: CentOS and SL, together? -- attributing statements to me (that I didn't make)
There's nothing like asking someone to "give it a rest" while taking the opportunity to make fun of them. Lucky for you (and the list), I can laugh at myself, because I can seem comical at times. But in all seriousness, just remeber to hold us all to the same standard. And we are all responsible for what we say and how we say it, and I'll never claim to be better than the worst

Jay, I contacted you many times regarding the script, whether you planned to update it, suggestions for features, etc. You did not respond to any of my later emails. Similarly, there was discussion between list members regarding whether this script was orphaned after changes to 411.com made the reverse lookup non-functional - for a long time. I assumed responsibility for updating the script as

Re: CentOS and SL, together? -- attributing statements to me (that I didn't make)
From: Dag Wieers > Bryan, stop generalising and dramatising. What dramatising? At some point, several people decide that anything they dislike was said by me. Several other people said far more negative comments about CIPE than myself. Those comments have now been attributed to me. I purposely avoided making it about whether or not CIPE should or shouldn't not be included, just why it

Another huge concern: It breaks, someone else has to fix it because it's in the C source - after it reaches a high enough priority. At least with scripts you could conceivably hack it. From what I've read there is some ability to get systemd to defer to a script, I'm going to have to become an expert at that. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Bruce Ferrell" <bferrell

Unable to log out normally
I've posted this question to the Gnome users list, but so far no luck, so I thought I'd mention this here. A little while ago, I noticed that I was no longer able to log out from my GDM. I'm running the default GDM (2.16) that comes with CentOS, and this problem started up right about the same time that I updated to the 53.1.4 kernel (from the 8.1.15 version). As I've posted

Concatenated key
Hi all, I started playing a couple days ago with Rails and it find it very interesting. But I''m a bit stuck with making it work with a concatenated primary key. I want to use my own names for the DB fields and I''m using SQL Server 2005. My tables look roughly like this: CREATE TABLE USERS ( USR_ID VARCHAR(25) NOT NULL PRIMARY KEY, USR_PASS VARCHAR(25) ) CREATE TABLE
