PXElinux booting trouble with asus a8n-vm csm + linksys srw2024 combination
Hi,
I'm trying to get our 30 node cluster booting from remote server via
pxelinux but have problems with the following mobo / switch combination.
linksys srw2024 switch + asus a8n-vm csm mobo
Maybe somebody saw similar problems elsewere and can recomend any
solution.
mobo bios is flashed to the newest available one.
An extremly simplified test setup which shows our problem:
PC1 -> SRW2024 <- PC2
PC1(192.168.1.1) was booted with knoppix, terminal server enabled

Does anybody know of any better alternatives I didn't think of?

RC1 Zfs writes a lot slower when running X
Hi,
I have OpenSolaris on an Amd64 Asus-A8NE with 2gig of Rams and 4x320 gig sata drives in raidz1.
With dd, I can write at quasi disk maximum speed of 80meg each for a total of 250meg/s if I have no Xsession at all (only console tty).
But as soon as I have an Xsession running, the write speed drops to about 120MB/s.
Its even worse if I ha...

Urgent hardware help needed
...onbuffered) quickly.
Thus, if you happen to have available some of this type of memory that
you could spare with and get to me quickly, I would really, *really*
appreciate it. I would really like to have either 4x512 MB or 2x1 GB in
this box.
The new hardware is an Athlon 64 3000+ and an Asus A8N-VM CSN
motherboard, in case someone is curious.

P.S. The new case (cannibalized from another server donated to me by
Penguin computing for RAID-6 testing) has additional slots, so I am also
looking to add a couple of WD 3200JD drives to use as backup media.

nfe driver 6.2 stable
Hi I installed the following driver.
http://www.f.csce.kyushu-u.ac.jp/~shigeaki//software/freebsd-nfe.html
Before I had the nve driver which was unstable on this server and on a
prior server in both cases causing either spontaneous reboot or just a
crash when under load.
So far touchwood the nfe driver has stayed up and running at almost 3
days uptime and has had some stress.
I know the driver

What is the motivation for choosing nVidia?
Dear developers
I have just noticed your fantastic work, and I am looking forward to
send you dumps of my GeForce 6150, when I get vacation in two weeks.
It is an integrated GPU on my Asus A8N-VM CSM, so I hope it will work.
The reason I post is, I am wondering what the motivation is for doing
nVidia and not ATi?
I have read the "FAQ:Why are you doing this?", but it doesn't mention
anything about ATi.
Is nVidia easier to write drivers for, or do you think AMD will

Release 4.4 and MPC51 ethernet controller
When using 4.4 to install on gigabyte GA-M51GM-S2 motherboard
basically an Nforce 410/430 chipset then network is not initially detect to
perform a network install. It let me attempt to manually select a driver
but I
do not see the driver in the list.
After installing the network works and the forcedeth driver is loaded.
Is there a way to get this driver detected or manually loaded?
THanks,

PXELINUX fall to exit PXE ROM
...ldisk)
I thought it was a bug and wait.
Lately, I test all versions from 3.83 to 3.86 and the latest 4.0 and 4.01
All with the same issue.
According to the changelog of version 3.83, i think, i am affected by this:
PXELINUX: fix localboot after NBP chainloading on certain BIOSes
(including ASUS A8N-E, but possibly others.)
I must admit than i don't what "NBP chainloading" mean.
If i use the following entry, the system boot to the directly local disk.
KERNEL chain.c32
APPEND hd0 0

Centos 4.4 install on ASUS A8V-VM does not find SATA drives
Yes, I know someone last week asked a similar question (Problem with ASUS
P5VD2-X X SATA II) but the only answer I saw on that thread was the
equivalent of "I've heard it's bad so I won't do it." Unfortunately, that
doesn't help me much.
The BIOS does indeed recognise my two SATA hard drives, and I've got the
BIOS set to "IDE" (which disables

[Bug 70566] New: NVD0 card hard lock-ups entire system at random moments
...ssification: Unclassified
OS: All
Reporter: ronald645 at gmail.com
Hardware: Other
Status: NEW
Version: git
Component: Driver/nouveau

My card is a GF119 (NVD9). A relatively new card on an aged board (Asus A8N-E).
It seems to lock-up at random moments, Magic SysRq does nothing. Only a hard
reboot is possible.
Sometimes it happens when the contents of the screen is changing, sometimes
not. I found it to have locked after an idle period a couple of times.
I'm currently testing the nvidia proprietary...

CF to SATA adapters for boot device
Has anyone here had any luck using a CF to SATA adapter?
I''ve just tried an Addonics ADSACFW CF to SATA adaptor with an 8GB card that I wanted to use for a boot pool and even though the BIOS reports the disk, Solaris B95 (or the installer) doesn''t see it.
I might give the IDE version a go (I really wanted hoT-plug), otherwise I''ll be able to store a couple of thousand

I am experiencing poor network performance on Dom0. When i ping other

response times ranging from < 1 ms to several seconds, and some
packets get lost.
For example, a typical ping result looks like this:
