Wireless Printing
My home network doesn't have any wireless access points (to slow) and I was iSCSI booting my wkst for a while:) Now I need to setup a printer so I was going to get an HP Photosmart C4580. The HPLIP page shows no network support:( I _was_ going to use a USB wireless nic I have and setup an ad-hoc to print to this thing. Anyone know anything that might make this work? Thanks! jlc

Support for Tripp Lite SmartOnline SU1000XLA?
...by another driver: Device or resource busy Can't initialize data from HID UPS Driver failed to start (exit status=1) I did an 'fuser -m -v /dev/usb/hiddev0' just prior, and the file was unused by any other process, so the error report is a little odd. (Another oddity is that the file _was_ earlier claimed by encfs, when I had an encrypted file system mounted, where no USB was involved at all. Don't understand that. I unmounted that before running upsdrvctl.) I'm running Debian Lenny amd64, FWIW. I don't have a serial port on the computer I'm using, so to make this...

VMware ESXi safeboot.c32 Source Code
...;s safeboot.c32 module? There is a question in the http://reboot.pro Syslinux forum regarding limiting the amount of memory, and it seems that a "mem=..." option works with both LILO and GRUB, so I would've expected to plop such a thing into the mboot.c32 invocation... If only there _was_ one... - Shao Miller

It's just stopped working! (1.9.18p8, IRIX 5.3)
Hi all, I'm extremely puzzled by the behaviour of one of my Samba servers. It's been working fine for yonks, and this morning (abuout 11:32) it just stopped. (mostly) Connecting to shares still works. Navigating the tree till works. Changing (DOS) attributes still works. But actually opening files and reading the contents doesn't work. The client just times out (Win 3.11, and

Latest R-devel build failing on OS X
I had a regression in config.site so the nightly build didn't. Retrying.... Looks like it will build, but the ctl-R, ctl-C bug is still present on OSX (w/Simon's libs). This _was_ fixed for a while, was it not? Dependencies on recommended packages
...package 'Matrix' 1.0-5 was found, but >= 1.0.6 is required by 'glmnet' Execution halted Run time: 92.43 seconds. There are some issues with this comparison, but in the Windows build/check chain on R-Forge, R2.15.0 patched was installed (including Matrix 1.0-6) and the build _was_ successful. Stefan suspected this to be an artifact of Matrix being a recommended package (so R CMD check would somehow prefer the version installed with R), and to a certain degree the successful build/check with R patched confirms this suspicion. I've neither read up on this nor tried ot...

Mach-O support in lld: what are the known issues?
I'd be interested in the existence of a high-quality, open-source, portable linker for apple platforms, but not enough to help make that happen. If I _was_ gonna work on something related to that, I'd probably be inclined to instead add any required features to allow an ELF linker to target a notional darwin-elf target, and to have clang emit darwin-elf object files, and then write a binary converter to convert the emitted ELF binary to a Mach-O b...

can''t create 1st domain on debian
Hi all I''ve taken the plunge and decided to set up Xen on my AMD64 machine. I want to use amd64 debian as the domain 0 O/S, then install a full amd64 debian dev kit and a couple of 32-bit linuxes on top. I''ve got an install of debian amd64 running as domain0, which boots up just fine. I boot it with dom0_mem=131072 (the machine has 1Gb of RAM). I then created some disk

Refresh not working with launchd service provider?
Hi, Refresh doesn''t seem to be working with the launched service provider on OS X Lion (10.7.4). I''ve come up with a simple "service" script, plist file and puppet script to apply to demonstrate. The problem. Here''s the shell script which logs an initial starting message and then just loops logging a "Still running…" message.

Problem with dyn.load in R1.6.1
I've been successfully using a dll via dyn.load() with R1.6.0 for Windows, but when I try it under R1.6.1 it manages to crash the program completely. Has there been a change in how R1.6.1 handles dynamic loading? I couldn't spot any such changes in the documentation. This problem occurred on two different machines, and both run the code under R1.6.0 without a problem. Rob Hyndman

does partial option work over ssh?

I have been trying to use rsync to pick up a half-finished file copy and continue from that point, rather than restarting, but can't seem to get it right. Running rsync 2.6.7 and OpenSSH_3.6.1p2 on RHEL3; pc-87 (see below) is rsync 2.6.3 and (OpenSSH_3.9p1, OpenSSL 0.9.7a Feb 19 2003) on RHEL4. This is what I believe SHOULD
