What is the best way to override an _entire_ AR::Errors msg?
All, I have an error message that I would like to be more readable, since my column name doesn''t look good. I want to change the output of validates_presence_of :eSubject from Esubject can''t be blank to Subject can''t be blank Do I have to go through aliasing the whole eSubject column in the AR class or is there an easier way to just modify the "field

--exclude=/ seems not to work as I want
...rsync invocation that synced nothing at all. (I wanted to avoid a sync by fiddling a config file in some automation rather than changing to auomation to have a skip-the-rsync mode.) Anyway, it seems to me with rsync-3.0.5 that one of: --exclude=/ --exclude=/* --exclude=*/ ought to omit the _entire_ directory tree. In fact, the first seems to do nothing (the whole tree gets synced) and the latter two omit everything except the top directory itself. I had hoped to omit everything including the top directory, thus making no changes of any kind to the target (yes, I know -n will do that too:-)...

...; I'll agree that they are good and on the average do a good job, but > that stops far short of saying that they know better than the > perl (etc.) teams what version you should be running. And _where_ did I say that? All I said was that _backporting_ is done to _minimize_ impact to the _entire_ set of _all_ packages that have been "regression tested" into a released, SLA guaranteed distro. That's what RHEL/SLES are about. At what point are you going to stop seeing what I saw as a black/white thing and realize that RHEL/SLES have _different_ foci than what you may want, and...

RE: pronunciation? -- loving CentOS doesn't mean you have to bash Red Hat
...Cobalt and Sun -- is that people assumed they were distributing Red Hat's product, unmodified. They were not and actually distributing a radically different version that was heavily modified. I even had this discussion with a guy who hates RPM and Red Hat, and once he finally realized that his _entire_ viewpoint was based on Cobalts, he _finally_ saw the whole reason for the trademark issues Red Hat now has. It was quite an epiphany. ;-> -- Bryan J. Smith mailto:b.j.smith at ieee.org

Good, concurrent I/O design in a server -- WAS: SPARC platforms
...050 combo), then I'm going to be able to handle _concurrent_ I/O for independent (and sometimes even inter-dependent) processors. You think of "raw throughput" like 8.4GBps FSB can easily handle a 0.5GBps transfer, but what you don't realize that the 0.5GBps transfer holds up the _entire_ 8.4GBps bus for _just_ 0.5GBps. I.e., it takes 1 second for a 0.5GBps burst from the I/O, which means you do _not_ "get the other 7.9GBps" while it's tied up. Now on workstations, not too much of an issue (except for when you need all: video, NIC, storage). And maybe not a web serv...

Error in https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders
Hi all,   can I freely create an account for the Wiki and do changes? Or should I notify someone (Rowland)? I found a small error in https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/User_Home_Folders . The wiki mentions as rights on the share Read and Execute for Authenticated Users, but on that level I see only Full Control, Change and Read. My assumption is that it should be Change and Read for Authenticated

> How's forever work for you? ;-> Absolutely FINE thank you! When your WizWonder package is housebroken, let me try it if I'm interested. Until then, a (stubbornly) broken distro will persuade me to try something else. That's why I left Windows, I guess, if you prognosticate correctly, it will be why I leave RedHat/CentOS. btw this has nothing to do with Firewalls at

Handling closed clients
We have a service that clients use to upload files. We have a couple of clients that are on slow links and so their upload times out. We get errors in the logs that I''d like to get rid of. I was hoping that the recent commit 24b9f66dcdda44378b4053645333ce9ce336b413 would help us, but it does not. After digging in a bit, I have some ideas about why and a patch I''d like comments

[OT] Corporate Firewall
Hey, The company I work for is in the market for a new firewall. Right now we're hosting all of our own stuff (on CentOS servers) behind an old checkpoint firewall. I think Checkpoint is overkill for our needs and very expensive, plus I don't like the "per-user" charges of some commercial solutions. What do you guys suggest that we upgrade to? Here are some of the

rename(2), atomicity, crashes and fsync()
Hi all, Recently there''s been discussion [1] in the Linux community about how filesystems should deal with rename(2), particularly in the case of a crash. ext4 was found to truncate files after a crash, that had been written with open("foo.tmp"), write(), close() and then rename("foo.tmp", "foo"). This is because ext4 uses delayed allocation and may not

help with interpreting what nnet() output gives:

You are requested to post the _entire_ error message. It seems rather informative. You are giving two arguments to return() and it only accepts one.
