Centos 3.4 3ware 9500S Floppy Boot Disk
We have created a Centos 9500S Floppy Boot Disk for installing Centos on a 3ware 9500S series controller that will allow installing and booting directly from this controller. This boot disk supports only AMD XP, MP and Opterons in 32 bit mode Centos 3.4 for the up and smp versions. We can also do a x86_64 version if requi...

3Ware Escalade 9500S controller question
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Greetings folks, I'm currently redoing my home server as one of the hard drives in my RAID-1 array went down and I'm going to replace the lot of it with a 3Ware Escalade 9500S RAID capable card and four Seagate 200GB SATA drives. These drives are supposedly the coolest and quietest SATA drives available (better than the Maxtors I had anyway) and the capacity upgrade on the server is worth the $$$ at this point. I'm planning on running them in RAID-5 for maximum dis...

How to get 3Ware 9500S controller card working in CentOS 3.1?
...e array on the 3Ware controller card. 3Ware does provide a RH WS 3 driver that I've tried to use; however, the RH Enterprise 3 WS driver doesn't work since that kernel is older than the CentOS-3.1 install kernel. I'm trying to create a centOS-3.1 installation driver disk for the 3ware 9500S card; however, I'm not having much luck. I've compiled the drivers on a stock centOS 3.1 install and created a modules.cgz file (using find . -depth | cpio -o -H newc | gzip -c > ../modules.cgz) with the newly-compiled driver modules. Here are the contents of the modules.cgz file I cre...

More info on 3Ware 9550SX from the field (in case anyone else is interested)
From a buddy of mine that has spent a little time with the new cards. This was in response to my email asking about his impressions of them: It just came out in mid-September. There are a couple reasons I'm not thrilled with it: 1) no 8-port multilane version (only 12) 2) the 8-port non-multilane version is a kludge, connector-wise (a row of 3 double-stacked connectors along the

Installing a .ko file?
Hi All, I am trying to add a 3Ware 9500S-8 RAID controller to a CentOS 5.4 box. I have the drivers from 3Ware and they seem to be a .ko file (which I presume is like a .kext on OSX) How do I install these? Searched turn up people talking about Kernel panics with .ko's but I dont see anything that points to to installing one so I ca...

3ware RAID controller scripts
Hello list, I see through the archives that some people here use 3ware RAID controllers with Centos. I have picked up two 9500S-4LP controllers for future servers. I was hoping that if some people could please share their 3ware monitoring scripts with the rest of the group. What I am really hoping to do is have some setup where a cron job runs scripts to test each of the drives connected to the controller to make sure they...

Raid / dual Opteron power issues
Hi All, I've just started caring for a dual Opteron machine. It has a 3Ware 9500S-12 RAID controller, a Tyan S2882G3NR motherboard, 10 IBM 400GB disk drives, and a 650 watt power supply. It has been behaving itself quite nicely until recently. The poor behavior started when I upgraded the OS from CentOS 4.1 (32 bit) to Centos 4.1 (x86_64). When running in uniprocessor mode...

Serial ATA hardware raid.
Hi everyone, I'm looking into setting up a SATA hardware raid, probably 5 to use with CentOS 4. I chose hardware raid over software mostly because I like the fact that the raid is transparent to the OS. Does anyone know of any SATA controllers that are well tested for this sort of usage? From what I can tell from googling, this is more or less where RHEL stands: Red Hat Enterprise Linux

OT: RH 4/5 and 3Ware 9500 firmware upgrades
I've just noticed that 3Ware has a more current version of the firmware for the 9500S than I have on several machines. All of mine are running: 3w-9xxx: scsi0: Firmware FE9X 3.04.00.005, BIOS BE9X 3.04.00.002, Ports: 8. and the latest rev appears to be 3.08. I'm wondering if there is any compelling reason to upgrade or just let these sleeping dogs lie. :) Any sage (or ot...
