Strange battery power shortage on an Unitek iZi UPS 525
...ystem to have 17min of back-up power (yes, still haven't figured out how to use upssched...) The system used for testing was an old PIII/500MHz/512KB cache, 256MB RAM (3 x SDRAM 100MHz) 1 x 8GB hdd IDE and a 250W PS. For various reasons I've switched to a new system consisting of one Duron 900MHz, 1 piece of 512MB RAM DDR1 and a 12GB IDE (same family as the previous 8GB). After reinstall, an upgrade to "nut-2.2.0-6.1.fc8", copying of the same nut config files and editing them so that the driver is now megatec instead of powermust I've discovered that the battery time is down t...

Data input performance
...;s at its best something like 2300x2300 matrix. Now, it seems to me, that the process of importing the matrix into R is rather slow. For the peak size of 2300x2300 it takes almost two hours. The clustering itself takes a minimum of time when compared to importing the data. I have 256MB memory, 900MHz processor PC, Linux (RH7.1). The version of R is "Version 1.4.0 (2001-12-19)" I have tried to follow all the recomendations I found in the documentation, so I do something like this: (The file consists of 2300 rows, each containing 2300 real numbers, separated by space. Nothing else....

Wine - ARM - Pandora Handheld
...to be able to run anything to heavy on it. But more along the line like old games like Deus Ex, Fallout 2, Diablo 2 etc etc... The classics... Games that run under early versions of Windows ( win95, win98 )? The Cortex A8 at 600Mhz, is along the lines of a Pentium M @ 600Mhz, and its designed for 900Mhz operation ( but not enabled default to save power ). And the GPU is also more then capable. So for those games, its more than plenty of power... The system has only 128mb ram. But the games listed there memory usage is happy with 16 to 64mb / ram. Note: For those wondering, it has a fully powered...

Is there a console tool to monitor&control&log&notify the print queue information?
.... (hmmm, it's a weird idea that job information been notified via windows messenger mechanism, but windows messenger service comes with windows 2000+ system, so client users don't need install other softwares to receive notification.) ps: (1). the printer server is an old computer (Celeron 900MHz, 128M+32M memory), so it's not good to run GUI desktop. (2). Document name contains Chinese characters, all I know is: there's an open source project named zhCon to deal the display/input of Chinese/Japanese/Korean characters in text console mode. And the encoding of zhCon may be different...

patch for libspeex
I have a patch for libspeex, which optimises some of the loops in vq_nbest and vq_nbest_sign that speeds up encoding - my results: test file: 10s wav file at 16000 Hz, mono encoding with wideband --quality 3, --comp 3 machine: PIII-900Mhz, 256MB RAM before: 2.78s after: 2.38s I'm still trying to grasp the code (I'm just a coder, no background in sound processing), and just optimised some loops. Should I be sending the patch straight to Jean-Marc? Or is here the right place? It's small so attached anyway for now. Patch...

[LLVMdev] Xilinx zynq-7000 (7030) as a Gallium3D LLVM FPGA target
...aphics Project is a matter of hitting "compile". not only that, but a fully FSF Hardware-Endorseable Laptop with decent 3D Graphics Engine would be as equally simple (the only FSF Hardware-Endorsed laptop product is that Loongson Leemote, by virtue of it having a 2D PCI Graphics IC and a 900mhz MIPS). the logic goes as follows: * one of the Gallium3D targets is LLVM. * one of LLVM's targets is Xilinx FPGAs (MicroBlaze). * the zynq-7000 7030 has 125k FPGA Logic Gates (and more) * with a TFP410 as the DVI driver, the OGP is done! now, given that this appears to be "too easy"...

ruby rails performance
Hi- We just finished our app and I tested for performance with httperf. Our setup is browser -> apache2.2-> mod_poxy balancer-> mongrel cluster -> 3 mongrel servers. I have noticed that the total request per second is is about 7.5. When I increase the no of mongrel to 5, it inches up to 8 req/s. My question is how bad or good this number is? We are on a old dell 2400 machine

...hat point. I can restart the decoder, disable the preprocessor, and the problem still exists, so I think the problem is related to the encoder. This problem might happen 2 minutes into a stream or an hour, it seems random, but it's happened 3 times in about 2-3 hours of testing, on both a 900MHz Athlon and a 2.8GHz P4. This time, I've saved the decoder's output. I'm hoping that if you listen to it, you might have some idea of the problem. It sounds like the low half of the frequency spectrum is somewhat ok, but the high half is totally messed up, getting 'frozen'...
