Runnin SSH on slow CPU (386 40Mhz 8Mb RAM)
Hello everybody,
I'd like to use OpenSSH (client & server, for shell & sftp) on
an embedded PC with limited resources (processor 386 SX 40Mhz
8Mb RAM). I have Linux running on it.
In the past, I tried to use OpenSSH on it just to see if it could
work but each connection required an incredible long time to start. I
suppose that the key generation is too expensive for that processor.
Is there something I can try to make it work better ? Can...

Hard disk image to use with Memdisk
Hallo
I would like to have an image of about 8Mb to boot with ISOLINUX and
MEMDISK. I am not able to create an image complete of the MBR, as MEMDISK
requires. I think I should emulate an 8Mb disk in memory or on a file, but I
am able to do so only for a 'single partition'. Could you please suggest me
a way to obtain the image? I can use L...

2. specify 'DestDir': Z:\
3. go to Option > Main Settings > I/O Setting > I/O unit (MB),
the default value is '1' and changes it to '8'.
4. click button 'Execute' to start file transferring.
Then we could see logs said that write size is 8MB (8388608):

single stream performance issue, Win2K, WinXP, Samba 3.2.5-4lenny7 (Debian Lenny)
Hello fellow Samba users and devs. This is my first post. I've searched
documentation far and wide for Windows, Linux, and Samba, and have not been able
to shed any light on this issue.
I can't get more than 8MB/s during a single file copy stream out of my Samba
server over my 100FDX switched network either from Win2K or WinXP (I don't have
a *nix client to test with). The network is idle during testing. Via FTP on
these Win machines to/from the same filesystem (100GB XFS) as the Samba share I

choosing of CPU's to run R
Dear All,
I am considering to buy a workstation. For the CPUs, I wonder whether
anybody have the experience in choosing one for the R.
Intel Xeon W3540 2.93 8MB/1066 QC CPU is much cheaper as compared with the
Intel Xeon E5540 2.53 8MB/1066 QC CPU. However, its Hz 2.93 is bigger than
2.53. I wonder which one would run R quicker. Thank you.

RHEL/Centos6 handling disks w/4k sectors?
Does anyone know if 4k sectors will be handled better by the kernel in Centos6?
I'd like to copy backups to a 750Gb laptop type drive for offsite storage but
the best write speed I can get is about 8MB/sec even with dd to the raw disk
which shouldn't have an issue with partition alignment.

Also, please send ONLY Plain Text to the mailing list. It is 'bad' nettequette to do otherwise.

Using opus on ATMEL 32-bit RISC microcontroller
...fortunately, there's no easy way right now).
You're right! I forgot to say that I need only the encoder side (and
only for voice).
My application have to acquire a 16bit 8KHz PCM stream and save a
compressed audio into a flash.
(And here I have another little question...
My flash size is 8Mb only and I have to be able to store in it 8 hours
of voice, do you think opus shrink the stream enoguht?)

fsflush writes very slow
...''m troubleshooting an I/O performance problem with one of our applications that does a lot of writing, generally blocks just over 32K, sequentially writing large files. It''s a Solaris 10 x86 system with UFS disk. We''re often only seeing disk write throughput of around 6-8MB/s, even when there is minimal read activity. Running iosnoop shows that most of the physical writes are made by the actual app and average around 32KB. About 15% of the data, however, is done by fsflush and only 4 or 8KB at a time. The write throughput for the fsflush writes is about 10% that of...

The sad state of samba 4 adaption for home/small business routers.
...et platforms and creating a valid qemu host
package per target is also problematic, since no package did ever require
such a workflow.
2) The size of the final waf bin/lib install, even if stripped down to the
bare minimum of smbd/nmbd/smbpasswd is unsuitable for most older routers
that have just 8MB nvram and problematic for 16/32 MB more recent routers,
depending on what other packages are added to the firmware.
The smallest samba 4.3 package we could manage to build is around 9-12MB or
4.9MB lzma compressed using this makefile + some multicall/static linking

sure, so? FastCopy.exe uses 8 meg, Explorer and Robocopy use a smaller
IO size. Or am I missing something?
