films on Desktops and roaming profiles
...u what do you limit Desktops syncing in case users
put large files on them, e.g. films.
Downloading / uploading such large files can generate lots of
unnecessary traffic. Is there any kind of filtering possible ?
Other solutions ?
Cheers,

I'm looking for an expert opinion and experiences. This basic settings
work OK but I'm just turning samba on for larger scale and I want to
be sure people group membership will be mapped right.

Samba3 + LDAP
Hi-
Is there any way to make it so that Samba3 with an LDAP backend doesn't need
to create local linux accounts to work? Thanks.

want to ban XP Home Edition
Just for sake of curiosity:
Is that possible ?
I'd like to support XP Pro *only* and to ban any other Windows OS
(no 2000 server or 2003 server machines in here).
Samba works in domain mode with Ldap backend.
Cheers,

problem with xp profiles and My documents contents
hi all,
got a small prblem here
Running Samba 2.2.8 with a couple of dell laptops that are used either
standalone or connected to a network.
Both users are storing lots of pictures on their C drive which are visible
through My Documents/My Pictures.
The problem is that when they are connected to the network, all these
files are stored as part of their profile on the server. When it gets to

Please do not advise me upgrading to 3.x.x as an only option ;-)

User and group ID problems when mounting.
Hi everyone,
I'm using Linux kernel 2.4.29 and samba 3.0.10 with Slackware 10.1 distro and
I'm having trouble getting the mount.smb to respect my uid and gid options.
Whichever uid and gid I specify I get something strange like uid 147926 and
gid 101. I heard someplace that this is a bug in the smbfs kernel module but
in that case it has appeard after the kernel 2.4.22 since I started

Roots of Samba
Hi all,
I have a class of Linux/OpenSource newbies and want to explain the origins of
Samba as a typical Open Source project. My interest in Samba has grown, as well
as my implementation of Samba. I started with 3 users on one server and now have
~2300 users in 10 buildings using Samba w/LDAP backend in a public school
district.
Anyway, I can give them my perspective, but I want them to know

Finding the GID of AD groups on samba
Hi Folks:
A couple weeks ago, the list helped me develop the way to find the UID
of users on my AD system. At the time I did not think that it would be
necessary to know the GID of the AD Groups, but I am hitting some snags
where I need to change the group ownership of folders etc.
I suspect that the necessary command is a variant of the getent command,
but man getent has not yielded where I

securing root to administrator mapping
I'm just starting to convert to using samba 3 --. Untill now, my use
of samba has been pretty simple. I've not used it as a DC and I've use
passthrough auth.. I know some say its ugly (and it can be) but its
made my life easier most of the time.
Now I'm reading through the samba docs, howto's, etc and I am still
very uncomfortable mapping the windows Administrator account to

Here is our first model in R :

- We have used a quasibinomial error because there is
overdispersion. How to know if it is OK?
- Glm does not take account of the correlation between the
flowers of a unique individual. So we would like to add a random effect
‘individual’ but the mod...

Rebuild of kernel 2.6.9-67.0.20.EL failure
Hello list.
I'm trying to rebuild the 2.6.9.67.0.20.EL kernel, but it fails even without
modifications.
How did I try it?
Created a (non-root) build environment (not a mock )
Installed the kernel.scr.rpm and did a
rpmbuild -ba --target=`uname -m` kernel-2.6.spec 2> prep-err.log | tee
prep-out.log
The build failed at the end:
