R-square in robust regression
Hi there, I have just started using the MASS package in R to run M-estimator robust regressions. The final output appears to only give coefficients, degrees of freedom and t-stats. Does anyone know why R doesn't compute R or R-squared and why doesn't give you any other indices of goodness of fit? Does anyone know how to compute these in R? connecting to process?
Hello, sorry if this is a duplicate message -- the R mail-server told me that my original post was being held for moderator approval. Whatever. I just want to know if it is possible to connect R to a running process and have realtime data updates to some plots? Thanks, Charles [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Windows 64bit package build requires underscore hack?
Hello, After much tinkering I managed to build packages using the 64bit version of R with the help of hints from http://www.murdoch-sutherland.com/Rtools/ and http://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/~ripley/Win64/W64porting.html and R-admin Manual. But a hack was required, and this seems to be related to a comment about underscores at the end of the second reference above (but this comment is about FUTURE

How can I fit a fixed-effect linear model or generalized linear model with method="ml"?
Hi, I want to fit a linear model (without any random effect) with method "ml". I tried to use "glm" I found that there is no option for "ml" or "reml" and the default one is "reml". THen I tried to use "lme" but it requires a random effect. How can I fix this problem? Of course, it's not necessary to be "glm" or

help with heatmap - how to remove annoying "X" before numeric values?
Hello All, I have a simple question based on how things are labeled on my heat map; particularly, there is this annoying "X" that appears before the numeric value of all the labels of my columns. Let's say I have the following silly data, stored in "temp.txt" 1905 1910 1950 1992 2011 2020 Gnat 0.08 0.29 0.29 0.37 0.39 0.43 Snake

New version of X11, png and jpeg
R-devel has new versions of the X11(), png() and jpeg() devices on Unix-alikes. The intention is that these are used identically to the previous versions (which remain available) but will produce higher-quality output with more features. Pros: Antialiasing of text and lines (can be turned off) but no blurring of fills. Buffering of the X11 display and fast repainting from a backing image.

'make install' fails on Solaris (PR#13946)
Full_Name: Bob Bownes Version: 2.9.2 OS: Solaris 10 Submission from: (NULL) (164.55.254.106) The sed lines in src/unix/Makefile confuse the grep distributed with Solaris that gets configured by ./configure. Switching from a separator of ':' to a separator of ',' fixes the problem. 76,77c76,77 < @$(SED) -e "s:@rhome:$(rhome):" -e

logistic regression
Hi everyone, I'm sorry if this turns out to be more a statistical question than one specifically about R - but would greatly appreciate your advice anyway. I've been using a logistic regression model to look at the relationship between a binary outcome (say, the odds of picking n white balls from a bag containing m balls in total) and a variety of other binary parameters:
