Image file or partitions over an iSCSI?
...them also by another server if the first one fails 2) performances 3) live migration is a non mandatory option (i.e. I can suffer to shutdown machines and restart them with minor service interruption, maybe with a heartbeat script) My questions are: The server(s) will have a raid 1 with two 74GB sas 15krpm drives. Where do you would store your VMs? You would use partitions (i.e. a LUN for each VM) or images? Swap files could be on the local disks? Does a "local disk images and overnight mirror to the SAN" approach would be better in this case? Religion question (optional...):...

3.1 on ASUS SK8V SATA problem
...iso images onto a couple of SCSI drives I have in the system, then got the 2.4.21-15 kernel update and enabled SATA support. Through a series of modprobes, I got it to recognize the drive. However, it didn't find a valid partition table, and the geometry is way off. My SATA disk is a WD740GD, a 74GB drive. Fdisk thinks it is 30MB, 255 heads, 63 sector/track, 3 cylinders. Have I done something wrong, or is the VIA SATA support in this kernel just not gonna hack it? The SK8V uses the VIA VT8237 southbridge chipset if anyone knows about this. Thanks for any help. -- C. Upgrading Drive, Best Practice?
...sound like a n00b question, but I've honestly never done this with a Linux machine... (it is running Centos3) We have a 1U mail server with two 36GB SCSI drives in a hardware mirror config. There's no more room for any other drives in the case. It's filling up, so we now have two 74GB drives ready to take their place. Possible solutions that I've come up with: 1) shutdown all the services (postfix, courier, etc.) backup the machine to another box, swap out the drives, install CentOS4, copy the email back. It's a pain, but I'd get a clean CentOS4 box when I'm...

Preparing to compare Solaris/ZFS and FreeBSD/ZFS performance.
Hi. I''m all set for doing performance comparsion between Solaris/ZFS and FreeBSD/ZFS. I spend last few weeks on FreeBSD/ZFS optimizations and I think I''m ready. The machine is 1xQuad-core DELL PowerEdge 1950, 2GB RAM, 15 x 74GB-FC-10K accesses via 2x2Gbit FC links. Unfortunately the links to disks are the bottleneck, so I''m going to use not more than 4 disks, probably. I do know how to tune FreeBSD properly, but I don''t know much about Solaris tunning. I just upgraded Solaris to: SunOS lab14.wheel.pl...

Memory problem with 64bit R using PLASQ500k
...on. On a 32GB RAM Linux server the job got killed, since function EMSNP() which is called from function getBetas() used up all RAM. Starting the computation on our 64GB RAM Linux server, function EMSNP() could be executed, nevertheless, we had to kill the job, when it reached memory consumption of 74GB!!! at a later stage! Interestingly, when running PLASQ500K on my local workstation, I could finish the computation w/o any memory problems. So what is the difference: 1. Server (4 Dual-Core AMD Opteron Processors, 64GB RAM): Fedora Core 6 and R-2.6.1 and packages compiled from source for 64-bit....

how to manage Digium TDM04B outgoing calls correctly
...ave 4 FXS ports to connect Fax machines) but with all the problems people seems to have with these cards I'm not sure anymore. Here's some specs of my server if that help answer the question : Motherboard Tyan S2875ANRF with dual opteron processors, 1GB RAM, dual Western Digital Raptor 74GB 10000rpm running Fedora Core 3 AMD 64bits version. The motherboard comes with 5 PCI and 1 AGP slots so I would fill up all the slots with the cards. The server is an Antec 3U case with a 550W Power Supply. So if you think the server can handle 5 TDM400P cards let me know. If not what FXOs devi...

Athlon 64 for Asterisk?
I want to buy a new server to run Asterisk and after looking at prices for the Athlon XP 3000+ it costs the same as an Athlon 64 at the same speed rating. I was wondering if Zaptel/Asterisk will compile/work on an Athlon 64? -- Carlos Chavez Director de Tecnolog?a Telecomunicaciones Abiertas de M?xico S.A. de C.V.

Minor patches for builds against ancient platforms
...ush" wasn't an option. I've been able to upgrade the compiler to gcc-3.4, openssl to 1.0.2k, glibc, php to something in the 5.4-branch, etc. I have CLucene working, even. I know should take a shotgun to the box and retire it. It's a NORTHWOOD P4, no less, with only 1.5GB RAM and 74GB of SCSI-160 storage. *BUT* that isn't my call to make, as much as I'd like to do the right thing. When Life(tm) hands you incredibly sour and bitter oranges, the best you can do aside from making a Palmetto Punch, is perhaps traditional Cochinita pibil the way they do in the Yucatan. I r...

Help with installing on Supermicro X6DHT-G server Marvell H2 SATA
I am trying to build a file server with 1 x 80 GB main drive and 4 x 500 GB SATA drives in RAID in a Supermicro 3U server. I found out the hard way that Centos 4.2 does not have a driver for the onboard Marvell H2 controller the drives are connected to. Supermicro techs sent me aar81xx.rhel4qu2.i686.img as an img file. I used dd to copy to a floppy and dd confirmed successful write. I booted

Need advice on storage
Hi all,? I have a CentOS 4.5 server running on a workstation mainboard (PCI Slots only).? We have now one 200 Gigs IDE disk dedicated for e-mail server storage.? We use Communigate Pro and the server has 45 Outlook clients with the MAPI connector (All mailboxes on the server).? Cheap ZFS homeserver.
So after toying around with some stuff a few months back I got bogged down and set this project aside for a while. Time to revisit. <BR><BR> Looking around there still is not a good "these cards/motherboards" work list. the HCL is hardly ever updated, and its far more geared towards business use than hobbyist/home use. So bearing all of that in mind I will need the
