Advice on setting up Raid and LVM
Hi all, I'm setting up Centos4.2 on 2x80GB SATA drives. The partition scheme is like this: /boot = 300MB / = 9.2GB /home = 70GB swap = 500MB The RAID is RAID 1. md0 = 300MB = /boot md1 = 9.2GB = LVM md2 = 70GB = LVM md3 = 500MB = LVM Now, the confusing part is: 1. When creating VolGroup00, should I include all PV (md1, md2, md3)? Then create the LV. 2. When setting up RAID 1, should I make those separated partitions fo...

Can CentOS be installed on an extended partition? System has the following partitions: OEM(reserved)-78MB(primary) System-100MB(primary) C-55GB(primary) D-100GB(extended) Can I divide D into 2 parts:70GB and 30GB and install CentOS in the 70GB logical partition? -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... --backup/--backup-dir filters feature req
...This came up for me as part of daily server backups where I use --backup-dir to have, effectively, daily diffs so that I can see what files changed when and what they were in the past for an appropriately long stretch back. The problem is that with one server I backup approx 100gb of data of which 70gb changes daily. I'm not interested in getting diffs for that 70gb and so would like to exclude the files and dirs that comprise them from the --backup file list, but I would like to keep things like config file changes, etc in the daily diff. At the moment I see two solutions, both of which are...

Disk usage for small files in ext3 in CentOS 5
...agment size: 4096 I could not find any differences that would explain the behaviour. Have you seen this before? Can you reproduce it on your systems? Do you know how to get the CentOS 4 behaviour? More on the point: I'm migrating some data from CentOS 4 to CentOS 5, it's around 70GB of millions of small files. I would like it to still take 70GB, not 140GB. For now, I'm working around this issue by using "-T small" to mke2fs, I'm not sure if it's going to have the effect I want, and I'm not sure about any other impact (performance?) it might have on my...

MD Raid 1 software device not booting not even reaching grub
Hi, I have a raid 1 setup where /boot and the rest lies inside the md0 container. /dev/sda1 md0 has /boot /dev/sda2 md0 has swap /dev/sda3 md0 has / SCSI card is an ADAPTEC AIC79xx Grub as the bootloader Centos 4.1 as the OS version Two 70gb SCSI disks The server was working fine. Then a power outage. checked the board, disk, ram, etc. All fine. Now when I try to boot the server does not even reach GRUB (no splash, no menu). I read a post about maybe the MBR got damaged (no fix posted) and another post about missing SCSI drivers not bei...

know who is writing on this moment.
How I can know who is writing a volume of data? What I want is to have monitored the writer to control sizes. I don't have disk quotas.

CentOS newbie just saying hello
Hi folks, Just a quick hello having installed CentOS on my first box - an Acer Altos G310 (P4 2.8GHz, 768MB RAM with 70GB + 300GB storage. The 300GB unit is a SATA disk which I hope to software (hardware!?) mirror - if I'm in for any major fun mirroring a SATA drive do let me know now - I think hardware mirroring is not an option (yet!?) but I haven't checked this out completely. This isn't my first *nix...

DO NOT REPLY [Bug 5954] New: Implement something like --very-fuzzy
...ity: enhancement Priority: P3 Component: core AssignedTo: wayned@samba.org ReportedBy: wasabi@larvalstage.net QAContact: rsync-qa@samba.org I'd like rsync to be able to compare all files on both sides to each other. All of them. Use case: I have a 70GB music directory. I sync it between home and work. At home I run a retagger which tags and renames pretty much every file and directory. So they've all moved, they're all named differently, AND their contents have changed. This basically would result in 70GB of transfers. If rsync were to c...

Asterisk Segmentation Faults Using Skinny (v1.6.0.10)
...both <http://downloads.asterisk.org/pub/telephony/asterisk/releases/asterisk-1.6.1.1.tar.gz>Asterisk 1.6.1.1 and subsequently Asterisk 1.6.0.10 (thinking that I was maybe trying to be too cutting edge) on a Dell PowerEdge sc440 server (nothing complex - Pentium Dual core 2ghz - 1gb ram - 70gb sata hd). The setup at this point is real simple with one Cisco 7960 phone registering with Asterisk using Skinny. I'm finding that simple things as pressing any of the buttons on the phone is enough to cause Asterisk to randomly restart from a segmentation fault. I've tried this with...

dovecot + cephfs - sdbox vs mdbox
...ages stored in a replicated pool of HDDs (under a Cache Tier with a pool of SSDs). All using cephfs / filestore backend. Currently there are 3 clusters running dovecot 2.2.34 and ceph Jewel (10.2.9-4). - ~25K users from a few thousands of domains per cluster - ~25TB of email data per cluster - ~70GB of dovecot INDEX [meta]data per cluster - ~100MB of cephfs metadata per cluster Our goal is to build a single ceph cluster for storage that could expand in capacity, be highly available and perform well enough. I know, that's what everyone wants. Cephfs is an important choise because: - the...

re-install over internet
Hello, I just got back from a datacenter where I installed a new server running CentOS 5.3. I set up a software raid with md0 being /. (Only one mount, didn't split anything up.) I just discovered that instead of raid 1, it did raid 0... Not exactly what I wanted! Probably missed that little check when installing. So now, I need to change this. But since the whole OS is on this raided

Bug in compile of rsync 2.5.4 on Tru64 UNIX V5.1a using cc
...ru64 V5.1A. The configure reported success and most of the compile steps cam through error/warning free except for the one that stumbled. Can someone help me out here? I am willing to provide a binary for Tru64 V5.1A if we can swat this bug. We depend greatly on Rsync to keep a fresh backup of our 70gb storage system that is the backend of http://www.indiana.edu/, Indiana University's main web site to the Internet. We're also big fans and soon to be BIG adopters of Samba 2.2.3a. Anyway here is the sequence that was encountered: [root@hyperion: rsync-2.5.4]#CC=cc ; export CC ; ./configu...

Not enough disk space error?
...opy files to the filesystems via Samba, an artificial limit is being imposed - at around 8.8GB. From windows I get the error "Not enough disk space" when I try to create/copy extra files. If I delete some files, then it works again for a while, until it hits the limit. Obviously with >70GB disk space available, this is annoying me! I have included my smbd.conf file below. Can anyone help me? Jamie. ###################################### [global] workgroup = workgroup server string = %h File Server dns proxy = no log file = /var/log/samba/log.%m max log size = 1000 syslog = 0 se...

?: zfs mv within pool seems slow
...s staying in the same pool. No data is actually getting changed, it is just being relocated. If this were a UFS filesystem, the move would be done before I even finish writing this. However, with ZFS, this is taking a long time. Is there a more efficient way of doing this? It sure looks like all 70GB are getting copied. Thanks Steffen

dsync / doveadm sync problem
...I had an old dovecot server with a working backup script. Basic concept was: - to dsync to a temp folder - using tar to preserve datetime - piping this 7z to benefit from my 16 core cpu - piping this through openssl to encrypt Over time the size of all my mail grew from 3GB to about 70GB. I used to keep the last 14 backups, but this uses a lot of space. I now want to dsync my Maildir onto my NAS via NFS and use the backup tool provided by Synology to have incremental compressed backup. However I cannot get dsync to run. root at mail:/mnt/backup_mail# dsync -f -u USER at DOMAIN b...
