Modify memdisk to mask/overlay start of hard drive
I have a somewhat unique problem I am trying to solve that requires me to temporarily replace the first 63s of the main hard drive and boot the result. Basically, I am hoping it is possible to modify memdisk to serve requests for the first 63 sectors from a ram disk and pass other requests through to the hard drive. There will never be a read spanning the two, so I don't need it to be able to handle...

boot problem in HP Proliant ML370 G4
Hi, I have strange problem when booting FreeBSD-6.x in HP Proliant ML370 G4. The problem is "-" appears on the screen and it never boots unless somebody hits the "Enter" key. Sometimes even PS2 keyboard doesn't respond during that time. Tried with USB keyboard, same problem. The machine has dual Xeon 3.2 GHz, 1GB of RAM and LSI Logic (mpt-5.0.5.20.00 bios) LSI1030-IT

Howto align partitions in Linux + NetApp
Hi, NetApp support has suggested us aligning partitions to improve performance, in short: starting sector must be divisible by 8. How can I move the start point in a misaligned partition -in production, with ext3- under Linux? A screenshot with a misaligned (start=63s) and aligned (start=64s) partition is available at: http://filesocial.com/lkwvvn2 (If anyone is interested in this topic, NetApp has a good document explaining performance issues in misaligned partitions: "Best Practices for File System Alignment in Virtual Environments", http://goo...

Frequent reboots...
Hello, I am having a problem with a new server running FreeBSD 4.9-PRERELEASE. Once every two days or so, it reboots itself.. there is no exact time of the day it reboots.. It rebooted itself at 4:25 PM EDT on 9/25, and 3:05 AM EDT on 9/29 (today). I thought it's the bad memory or some sort, so I've been running memtest today and memtest reports no sign of trouble with the memory...
