Why Aastra uses 48V whereas other IP Phones use much less, i.e. 5-12V
Hi, Why Aastra phones use more electricity, i.e. 48VDC whereas other phones use much less, e.g. Grandstream and Linksys both use only 5VDC. I first thought it was because of PoE, but the ones with 5VDC also run fine on PoE. What is the difference in power consumption then? -- Zeeshan A Zakaria -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... OT: Grandstream power supplies..
...online (In the UK using Maplin let me know if you know a better place.) becasue it would probbaly take too long to get one sent from China or the US and I need to get that station operational again.. There seem to be many choices for power supplies.. Looking on the bottom of the broken one it is a 5VDC 400mA output.. When I looked online for a new one the choices are for regulated, unregulated and switch mode power supplies with the regulated and switch mode ones being VERY much more expensive than the unregulated ones.. Which kind would do the job?? Also most of the variable output adapters a...

Re: Asterisk-Users Digest, Vol 7, Issue 260
> From: "James Bean" <james@hdcs.com.au> > Has anyone every setup an external open/close relay, off say a serial > interface, and have an extension trigger the relay? The following will do the trick. Just add a 5vdc solid state relay ('cause you can't sink too much current out of the RS232C port). Substitute "2", "4" or "6" in the code below to turn on either DTR, RTS or both signals. "0" for off. Change SWDEV in the lpswitch.h file to be the serial port you int...

R: R: NUT and relay on USB
Setup that I was on mind is a little different, but I think your setup works well. In my setup the HUB is connected directly to the UPS, then the cables go to raspberry and device. In your setup the HUB is connected directly to the raspberry, then the cables go to UPS and Device. It?s Ok? In both configurations I need the same things: Male B->female A adaptor, HUB and 2 male A->

Any IP phones with pro-audio connections?
Does anybody know of any IP phones (ideally SIP based) that have interfaces to plug into a pro audio system (eg for phone interviews). Something can probably be hacked up with a headset connector or the 1/8" jacks on a 7970 but I'm wondering if there's something better out there. Thanks, Julien

USB-serial adapter for CentOS 7
I need to connect an older APS UPS unit to a machine running CentOS 7. Unfortunately the UPS only has a serial port whereas the computer does not. I am aware that there are USB-serial adapters but that the hardware or the drivers might fall short of expectations. Does anyone have positive experience with such an adapter? Or, conversely, would recommend avoid a particular adapter?

Need to test serial port connection
I recently bought a new UPS, and I''m attempting to use nut to monitor it. Following setup instructions everything seemed to go well until it came to testing the connection, which failed. There is just one serial connector on the computer, so I set it to monitor /dev/ttyS0. Either that is wrong, or communication is failing. I''ve been told to try minicom to monitor it,
