memory tops out at 1.84gb on OS X 10.4 machine w/ 5GB ram
Hi all, Sorry if this is a dumb question, but I am on 10.4 with R2.2, and when loading a big text file (~500MB) with scan(file, what=character) I am throwing malloc errors that say I am out of memory...I have 5GB on this machine, and Activity Monitor tells me R is only up to ~1.84GB both times this has happened (running from terminal)... I am wondering why this is happening when I still have >2GB of free memory waiting to be used...? Any advice would be much obliged, Ken

Recommended partitioning for xen host
Is there a recommended partitioning for dom0? Here''s what I have planned. /swap 2GB /boot 100MB (ext3) / 5GB (ext3) xenmachines LVM volume group for the remaining diskspace dom0 will install in 5GB / and each domU will have a swap and root logical volume in "xenmachines" Thank you, _______________________________________________ Xen-users mailing list Xen-users@lists.xensource.com http://li...

[LLVMdev] [RFC] Less memory and greater maintainability for debug info IR
...I looked into its memory layout (it's a hog). I started working on PR17891 because, besides improving the memory usage, the plan promised to greatly reduce the number of nodes (indirectly reducing RAUW traffic). In the context of `llvm-lto`, "stage 1" knocked memory usage down from ~5GB to ~3GB -- but didn't reduce the number of nodes. Before starting stages "2" and "3", I counted nodes and operands to find which to tackle first. Unfortunately, our need to reference local variables and line table entries directly from the IR-proper limits our ability to r...

CentOS5 installation crashes
...urion64 and ATI X700 128MB gfx card. I want to partition my 80MB ATA disk as LVM, so I: Choose custom partition. delete all existing partitions. add one LVM vg partition taking up entire disk. I do not change any default options. I then click the LVM button to add my logical volumes as follows: 5GB / 8GB /home 5GB /tmp 4GB /var 1GB swap all are ext3 partitions. I exit the LVM dialogue and click Next to continue with the partitioning, and... it all crashes. I get a debug error box with lots of unintelligible errors that I am completely unfamiliar with. I click OK on the error dialogue and...

how to resize a partition of a disk define as a physical volume
Hello, I have a CentOS VM with only one disk on a Xenserver. The disk has 2 partitions: /dev/xvda1 -> /boot /dev/xvda2 -> a physical volume for LVM I added 5GB to this disk via Xencenter to extend /dev/xvda2. Usually I just have to do "pvresize /dev/xvda" to have the additional space added to the disk. But for some reason it does not work for this disk. [root ~]# pvresize /dev/xvda Failed to find physical volume "/dev/xvda". 0 ph...

Catch all for dovecot authentication?
Hi I'm aware that there are several good reasons not to do what I want, but in my use-case it would be an interesting feature. So please no discussions about the reasonableness I have some spamtrap SMTP servers (postfix). Currently SMTP AUTH is disabled. But as I daily have thousands of AUTH tries I thought it would be nice to be able to accept any AUTH request from postfix in dovecot. Is

How to fasten btrfs?
Hi, I am using 2.6.36.3 kernel with btrfs, 512MB memory and a very slow disk, no special options for mounting btrfs except noatime. Now I found it very slow. In the OP you were talking about 15.3GB peak for llvm-lto. Why is ~5GB now the peak? Also in the OP, the theoretical improvement, out of 15.3GB, was 2GB after stage 4. How are you getting 2GB impro...

OT: Recommendations for a virtual storage server
...server storage to another ESXi server and at the same time to the host where is installed. This is due to the limitations of hardware I have available. Both hosts needs to server several machines. It is very important that the virtual machine consumes the least resources possible (host has 5GB RAM and i need to run three virtual machines minimum, including this storage server as a virtual machine). What can be better solution: CentOS, NexentaStor, openfiler ...?? Many thaks. -- CL Martinez carlopmart {at} gmail {d0t} com

¿Alguna explicación para este fenómeno? (Relativo al uso de memoria)
...lativamente chiquito: > dim(loans) [1] 15172 22 > object.size(loans) 7488144 bytes Sin embargo, empresas <- split(loans, loans$number_id) length(empresas) #8748 object.size(empresas) # 50643907728 bytes Es decir, el objeto resultante de partir un df de 15000 filas en 8700 dfs ocupa 5GB. ¿Alguna idea de por qué ocurre esto? (Uso R 3.0.1 en un Xubuntu 12.04 de 64 bits). Un saludo, Carlos J. Gil Bellosta http://www.datanalytics.com
