Hi, In populating our racks with several gigbit switches over the next few days, i'm wondering this: Is it over-engineering to seek out 550mhz rated cables over the typical Cat 6 250mhz rated cables? I've been advised (if you can a salesperson's words advice, heh.) that 250mhz is enough to handle traffic up to 10GB's. Should I just be happy with Cat6 for my GB switches or is is worth getting more into the details and seeking...

Ok, here's what iam trying on,, a compaq proliant 8500 server with 8 xeon 550mhz processors, 6 gig ram,, i just installed centos 4.1 on a proliant 3000 dual 550's and 2 gig ram and went smooth as silk, just got the 8500 and it seems to be in good order, but when i tried (twice) to install centos 4.1 it stalls shortly after a screen of stuff installing and the last two items...

...mm.. Here's my setup currently. libogg-1.0rc2, libvorbis-1.0rc2, (both from the vorbis.com unix download page) icecast2 cvs from last night, running on FreeBSD 4.3. It might not matter much, but I am also using libao-0.80 and vorbis-tools-1.0rc2 from vorbis.com as well. Hardware is a pentium-3/550mhz, 768 megs of ram, not doing much more than serving about 10 smaller websites. (between 10-20 megs a piece, minimal php/perl scripting). I would imagine this would require the computer to encode these streams in real time simultaneously and was wondering how much of a computer would be required to do this. We might be able to get a dual PIII 550Mhz machine with 512 ECC SDRam donated, or we are looking at purchasing a dual Xeon 2.4Ghz machine with 1Gb of ram. Would be able to get away with the machine that we can get donated, or should we invest in some beefier hardware, and if so, would this machine be enough? Thank a bunch! -Matt

So, I _finally_ got the time to upgrade from 0.99.14 ... which I told myself I'd upgrade from once 1.0 was released... (yep, I've been _that_ busy :) So I read the Wiki page on 0.99->1.0 transition, and went through the config file - for all of about 5 or 10 minutes. I logged in at 11pm when nobody else should be using it, restarted dovecot with the new version, and logged in.
