ramdisk_size
Hey All,
I'am using pxelinux to try and boot a 200meg uncompressed (approx 50
compressed) ramdisk onto a machine with 512meg of ram. It looks as though
I'am running out of memory (attempt to access beyond end of device error).
Is there a limit on what we put for ramdisk_size? Or Is there other
limitations?
thanks

What small device do you have in mind? The smallest device I could
possibly imagine *encoding* FLAC on is Rasberry Pi which has 512Meg
of RAM.
If you really are concerned about this (and knowing that it has little
benefit on Linux) maybe we could wrap it in a Windows only #ifdef.

Data through T1, nethdlc
Hello all,
My set up is a fractionated t1, with 1-6 voice channels, 21-24 data
channels. I have a t100P installed in a amd 1500 with 512meg.
Question:
In order to set up the data channels, is the following correct?
1) compile new kernel with generic hdlc support
2) compile hdlc from hq.pm.waw.pl/hdlc
3) uncomment KFLAGS+=DConfig_ZAPATA_NET in zaptel makefile
4) compile zaptel,
5 compile rest of asterisk
6) add following to zaptel.con...

Remote Call Pickup Problem
Hello all,
I'm trying to get "remote call pickup" (*8) working
and I'm running into a bit of a problem. First the machine specs.
This is a P4 2.66ghz w/ 512meg of RAM. I downloaded the CVS of asterisk
on 04-16-2004, but I'll probably try to upgrade to the latest tomorrow.
The machine has a T100P card and we are using channels 1-8 for voice,
and 13-24 for data. The phones we are using are Cisco 7940's with SIP.
For the most part, almost e...

RAM for cluster net boot?
I'm looking at building a small cluster of disk-less 1 or 2U servers and
will probably use CentOS 5.
Since these machines will not have any hard drives, what would be the
minimum amount of RAM I'd need? Also, if using Rocks or something
similar, will that help cluster the RAM together so 4 servers x 4 GB RAM
each = 16 GB available?
Some applications might be CPU intensive, others

Disk fragmentation
I have been running a lot of large compression tests to see how well
Martijn van Beurden's new presets do and was once again reminded how
real the fragmentation problem still is.
To have decent speed it's necessary to run multiple encoders in
parallel. In my setup FLAC was compressing four files at the same time
and each instance writes tiny bits of data to disk at once. A

Re: Asterisk-Users Digest, Vol 2, Issue 281
...disk /mbr works just as well.
I have a Windows 2000 Server that's been online continuous for 6 months with
no reboot. It stays at less than 7% useage no matter what it is doing and
always gives back every ounce of the Ram after a task. It's running on a
crappy 400 AMD Processor, has only 512meg of Ram and handles over 2000 Email
Accounts on an aftermarket Email Server. (only an idiot uses Microsludges
SMTP/POP Server). It's not broke and I don't fix it.
Anytime you fiddle with any machine, it's going to need to be rebooted. And
this includes Windows and Linux both. Anyone...

6.0 text-mode installer broken?
(I'm doing tests in a VirtualBox instance, so take this with a grain of
salt.)
If you give the VM only 512 MB of RAM, the text-mode installer kicks in.
It does not prompt you to configure anything related to the network or
hostname. The system boots up without a network interface configured.
Also, it won't let you choose the install mode, I guess it defaults to

interview request for ppl who have Shockwave/.Firefox working
For a long time now I've wanted to be able to watch videos. I've done
the "try this!" and "try that!" method and it hasn't worked well. So
I'm wondering if anyone running CentOS 5.5 has Shockwave on Firefox working.
Currently it works for me with short videos-- up to two or three minutes
long. However, when Shockwave is enabled, CPU usage jumps to 99%,

Transition from one server to another.
A frind of mine and I are running a dedicated server, that among
other things host mail for ourselves and friends and families. All in
all about 15 different domains with 35-40 users. The machine in
question is old, so we are doing a slow transition from the old server
to the new one. So far, we've managed to move web hosts
seamlessly. Due to the technical capabilities at some of the user
