OT Question about raid 5
Hi List I am hoping that someone here could perhaps give me a straight answer on a question that someone asked me today I have always belived that if you have 5 hard drives 1 50gb second 50gb third 20gb fourth 60gb firth 30gb that the largest would then be the size of the smallest disk, not 80 or 100 or 120 for that matter or am I wrong here? performance with >50GB files
Hi all, today we had a performance issue transfering a big amount of data where one file was over 50GB. Rsync was tunneled over SSH and we expected the data to be synced within hours. However after over 10 hours the data is still not synced ... The sending box has rsync running with 60-80 % CPU load (2GHz Pentium 4) while the receiver is nearly idle. So far I had no acces to the poblematic setup...

DFS share: free space?
Hi, is it possible, to use DFS and show the correct values of free space? I set up a DFS-share located on filesystem1 (size 50GB) and linked shares of another server to this share (msdfs:<fs>\share): share1: size 110TB share2: size 50TB share3: size 20TB But connecting to the DFS-share, the disk size of this network drive ist 50GB. Unfortunately files larger than 50GB can not be copied to the network drive . Any i...

When can I start using a peer that was added to a large volume?
I added a peer to a 50GB replica volume and initial replication seems to go rather slow. It's about 50GB but has a lot of small files and a lot of files in the same folder. What would happen if I try to access a file on the new peer? Will it just fail? Will gluster fetch it sealessly from the replication partner? Or w...

Limitations of R
Dear all, I have a few binary files like 9Gb or even of 50Gb. I would like to ask you what are the known limits of the R for the data processing part, I have a system with a lot of RAM (500Gb) but I am not sure about the "internal" limitations of the R. How long for example a vector can be? Could you please inform me for these internal R limitat...

Mail Question
...P/MYSQL/POSTFIX/Dovecot. I have everything up and functional but one thing is giving me an issue. The testbed box will not handle a users mailbox over 2gb. We are using mbox on the existing server with no issues at all. I have multiple users with inboxes over 2gb and and archive mbox file with over 50gb. I have check postfix and made sure that the mailbox_size_limit = 0 Both are running i686 as returned by the arch command and both are Centos version 5.6. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated. -- Bo Lynch

Server migration
...old server to a new server with the latest dovecot version can i simply use rsync to sync everything and, when the sync is quick, move the mailbox from the old server to the new server? My biggest concern is how to manage the the emails that are coming during the server switch. Let's assume a 50gb maildir , the first sync would require hours to complete (tons of very small files) do i can't shutdown the mailbox. The second sync would require much less time and would also sync the email received during the first sync (but the mailbox is still receiving new emails) now, as third phase, i c...

rsync for migrating oracle datafiles
...tion for all ye rsync guru's out there... I have a need to migrate some fairly large Oracle datafiles from a UFS filesystem to VxFS (VERITAS), however I am not being allowed nearly enough outage time to perform a standard file copy migration. The datafiles (of which there are about 4 are about 50GB each in size and on separate UFS filesystems. I am considering instigating a local rsync copy between the two filesystems (From UFS to VxFS) while the database is active and then ... 1. shutting the database down 2. letting the rsync migration complete 3. unmounting the UFS filesystems 4. remoun...

Dovecot 2.3.8 - How to force index creation for user/mailbox?
Hello, I'm using maildirs, and I have problems with big mailboxes (~ 20000 emails, 30-50GB) - sometimes access to such mailbox takes very long (~10 minutes), I would like to be able to create index for mailbox in background, but I couldn't find any way to do it. So far I tried: *doveadm -D -vvv index -u user 'Folder' * But even if this folder have no dovecot.index* files...

CentOS 8 partiitioning for reliability
...ing CentOS 7. Yeah, it's gross overkill for that and I expect to tuck most of the drives away for spares. How should I RAID and partition this beast for maximum reliability? My current C7 system is using 1 TB of 2 TB capacity on the root partition (4x 1 TB drives in RAID 10). /boot is 300MB/50GB. Memory and swap is 8GB each.

I need storage server advice
Hi: I need advice on implementing a storage server. I really do not have the $ to spend for a Dell iSCSI storage divice and I am thinking trunning CentOS 5.x with ftp or FreeNAS. Here is what I am looking at and concerned about. Situation: My current storage needs are approximately 1.5 TB annually. This will increase to about 3.5 TB annually over the next 5 years (rough est.). This box

not using LVM for Linux VM guests?
...OT partition 1 - entire device is / 2 - entire device is SWAP Doing this has simplified resizing so much, I now let the junior admins and my manager expand drive space as needed. It's also let's us really be spartan on space since expansion is so quick. Instead of increasing systems in 30-50GB chunks, we can do 10-15GB and let our rmonitoring system warn us when space gets tight. ------------------------------------------------------------- ======================================================================= Attention: The information contained in this message and/or attachments from...

If you're using a drive 2TB or smaller, and an MBR, rather than a GPT, you can *only* have four primary partitions. To make more, one of those must be an extended partition, and you can create additional partitions in
