LVM change disk
Dear all, I have a 4,1TB Logical volume consist of four disks with size of 2TB, 1TB, 1TB, and 500GB. The LV currently full. I plan to change the 1Tb disks and 500Gb disks. I plan to remove one 1TB disk or the 500GB so that I can replace it with 2TB disk. most LVM tutorial ask to use pvmove to move phisical extent to the new disk. The problem is that I have no SATA port left so that I can't mo...

I have a 500GB Sata drive about 15% used I would like to make an exact copy of too another Sata 500GB drive as a spare. Upgrading drives in raid 1
...s for pitfalls, errors, or if I am just wrong. Centos 5.x, software raid, 250gb drives. 2 drives in mirror, one spare. All same size. 2 devices in the mirror, one boot (about 100MB), one that fills the rest of disk and contains LVM partitions. I was thinking of taking out the spare and adding a 500gb drive. I would run this " sfdisk -d /dev/sda | sfdisk /dev/sdc " (drive 'a' setup is cloned onto drive c) Then I would add drive c to the raid array as the spare. I would then pull out drive b and allow drive c to be synced with a. At this point drive c has 250gb worth of partio...

Backup of large filesystems >500GB
I've a small system that I use to support a number of churches. I provide web and email for them. My current server is running CentOS 6.3 with paired 1TB drives in a RAID1 configuration. It works well. One filesystem is very large, >500GB, and contains numerous large files: SQL, docs, church libraries in ebook and digital form, plus stored videos of church services. My problem is that I've found no means of backing up that file system. Dump and tar both error out as exceeding the maximum size. Neither will backup just the video...

IBM X3200
Hi ppl . I am getting a IBM x3200.. This machine can only support up to 4 x 250GB SATA. I need to have a usable space of 500GB and mirror it to other 500GB. IBM proposed me to get 2 RAID cards. Do you guys think i can do raid 0 on the first 2 x 250GB HDD and raid 0 on the second 2 x 250GB hdd, both on hardware raid and then during the installation of centos 5, i raid 1 on both the 2 sets of hardware raids? Thanks

Mixed ZFS vdev in same pool.
I have a question about using mixed vdev in the same zpool and what the community opinion is on the matter. Here is my setup: I have four 1TB drives and two 500GB drives. When I first setup ZFS I was under the assumption that it does not really care much on how you add devices to the pool and it assumes you are thinking things through. But when I tried to create a pool (called group) with four 1TB disk in raidz and two 500GB disk in mirror configuration to...

Problem sharing a directory which contains other mountpoints
Hi, Here is my problem : On a server we have a directory, /data, shared with Samba. In this directory, we have two mountpoints : mp300 which contains a 300GB filesystem, and mp500 which contains 500GB filesystem. So we have : |----data |-------mp300 => 300GB |-------mp500 => 500GB and /data is shared wich Samba. On Windows, if we try to put many files, a example 30GB, in /data/mp300 (or /data/mp500), Windows says there isn't enough free space : it reports th...

Zil on multiple usb keys
This might be a stupid question, but here goes... Would adding, say, 4 4 or 8gb usb keys as a zil make enough of a difference for writes on an iscsi shared vol? I am finding reads are not too bad (40is mb/s over gige on 2 500gb drives stripped) but writes top out at about 10 and drop a lot lower... If I where to add a couple usb keys for zil, would it make a difference? Thanks. Sent from a fruity device

Multiple RAID support in CentOS?
...ether a Server for personal use, I want to virtualize a few servers(mail, web, ssh) and use it as a NAS, but I have a question if I can use Multiple RAID Arrays using the following HW: Intel Xeon Quad Core X3430 ASUS P7F-M LGA 1156 - LSI MegaRAID(integrated) - HighPoint RocketRAID 2640x1 2 Hitachi 500GB HDDs 4 Hitachi 1TB HDDs I want to use one array with the 2 500GB HDDs in RAID1 for the OS and for some VMs, and the other 4 1TB HDDs I want to create an array in RAID5 or RAID10 for file sharing across my home Network. Mail account brute force / harassment
Marc, There is a strategy loosely referred to as "choose your battles well" :-) Let the others bother with their own problems. If you can, hack the server and dump the 500GB - you'll be using resources transferring the 500GB as the other server receives it. Two servers wasting resources because you think you are punishing an offender! Here is what I did: $ sudo fdisk /dev/sda -l Disk /dev/sda: 500.1 GB, 500107862016 bytes 255 heads, 63 sectors/track, 60801 cylinders, total 976773168 sectors Units = sectors of 1 * 512 = 512 bytes Sector size (logical/physical): 512 bytes / 4096 bytes I/O size (minimum/optimal):

Rsync and differential Backups
...ng --backup-dir). How I can perform a diff backup? I know that rsync check differences using "the base dir". This dir have "the same content" of backupped source. To make incremental, this base is used. Supposing that I've 500 GB data on source. Make/sync the base-dir of 500GB. Running a full backup (the result file must be a fullbackup.tar.gz), at the end of the process I get a base-dir of 500GB and a .tar.gz of +/- 500GB compressed. Is correct make full backup, performing first an incremental backup on the base-dir and then compress it on a .tar.gz? Or is better re...
