G4-400mhz enough for CentOS 4.3?
It's that time again. I'm stuck with a bunch of older Powermac G4's that I either need to repurpose or give the heave ho. I've not tried CentOS on Mac hardware before. Would the following config be suitable for a (somewhat slow) workstation? PowerMac G4 400mhz 256mb RAM 40gig ATA disk Some sort of dual-head ATI video setup with 64mb VRAM (I've forgotten which cards they are) Cheers,

[Atcom] Asterisk + LAMP on 128MB RAM?
Hello I'm thinking of selling an Asterisk server based on Atcom's IP02 solid-state unit with one FXO and one FXS ports: http://atcom.cn/En_products_IP02.htm By default, this unit based on a 400MHz Blackfin 532 chip only has 64MB RAM and 256MB of NAND flash. Those can be increased to 128MB and 1GB, respectively. Do you think I can install Linux + Asterisk + LAMP (replacing MySQL with Firebird, to avoid license costs) on the default specs, or will it be a bit short? Thank you.

Sound cards for Centros
What sound cards are recognized by Centros? I have installed it on an old 400MHz IBM Aptiva that has Crystal Audio built-in. However it does not seem to recognize that, nor a Sound Blaster, nor a Sound Blaster 16 that I have tried. Any cheapo cards that it would recognize? Mike

Opus on MIPS performance
Hi All, First time poster to this group, please ignore my ignorance? I?m trying to use Opus 1.1 on a 400MHz MIPS 24k CPU (AR9331, specifically, like in the Arduino Yun). I?ve successfully built (I think) opus-1.1 and opus-tools-1.8 and they run, but are dog slow. opus-1.1 does have the ?enable-fixed-point option set, as this chip only has soft-float. My short test file (less than one second) enco...

How much CPU power needed for asterisk
I'm thinking of placing Asterisk on an itx motherboard in a tiny case. The ITX motherboards top out around 400Mhz PII (in terms of power relative to a desktop). How much CPU would I need for an office of 50 people? How much disk storage for voicemail + OS? (typical / average) The system will have no PCI cards (no Digium FSO/FXO cards) - everything over the LAN connection. Thanks, Mike --------------...

Searchable Mailing Lists & NooB Question
...e for the answer to the following question: I'm getting ready to set up a * server at home. No digium equipment. Using FWD and maybe Vonage in the not too distant future. After that, I will consider adding one FXO and FXS port (maybe the digium dev kit). I'm planning this on a Celleron 400mhz. Should I even attempt this? The box will also be running a web server and a chat server (Jabber). Any thing I should watch out for? Any surprises I could run into? I have a DSL line that is 32 kBs up. Sorry if this has been covered ad-naseum before on the list. Geoff -- I have some G-Mail...

haldaemon crashes system?
I'm in the process of setting up CentOS 4.3 on an old 400MHz K6 and found that the system hangs within several seconds of starting haldaemon. With haldaemon disabled, everything seems to work. >From what I've read, disabling haldaemon isn't a problem, but I thought I'd ask if anyone else has seen similar problems or if anyone had any trouble...

hardware help ?
I just bought an TDM400P card with one FXS port and a X101P FXO card to try and put together the beginnings of a PBX here. The computer they are going in should arrive in a week. So I thought I would start learning how to config the card in an IBM Aptiva we have here, an old 400Mhz P2 box. However when I put the TDM400P in the box the machine won't POST. Does this mean that the card is bad or that the machine can't handle this new PCI hardware? If it matters the cards were purchased online at voipdepot.ca just this week and arrived this morning. Mike

Key for high CPU usage
Dear List, I'm trying to take a closer look at rsync code, and found when we run daemon, it will take a lot of CPU (400Mhz). So I'm interested in Which part of rsync code on ver 3.0.5 consuming CPU a lot? Can anyone here help to lighten me up? So I can try to improve the performance or low the CPU usage. I suspect that there are a few factors, which might related with CPU usage: rolling checksum/Disk IO(a slide...

Switch to Multi-Proc -> Choppy sound?
Hello, everyone I'm relatively new to Asterisk (and VOIP in general), but I have a project that it will really help with. So, I setup a test system on an ancient 400MHz P3 we had lying around. It worked great. I had a test dialplan working, and had no trouble connecting to it with SIP using 3CX SoftPhone over our LAN (and over the Net through our NAT). So, we went ahead and bought a server to put up on our colo site with our web apps and database. We put toget...
