question on Opus quality vs MP3
Hello. Can Opus provide better quality than MP3 320kbps? Can Russian resident use opus for encoding music file without any limitations from any countries laws and patents, so .opus file can be loaded directly on any website and get revenue from it without any royalties or licenses? Problems streaming high bitrate over a LAN
I am trying to stream various 320kbps MP3s across my 10Mbps LAN. Either locally or across the network, freeamp and xmms prefetch a chunk, then play it, then fetch another chunk etc. No continuous streaming. shout gets a lot of !s between its "."s when sending the file to icecast. Any ideas? -- Always hardwire the explosives...

Ices generates lots of email warnings
...39;t give any further advice. That's something to check. But what does "correct" mean? Do you mean it has to match the stream's overall sample rate? It doesn't always. The stream runs at 128kbps. Some of the things get transcoded from other bit-rates, like 192-, 256, and even 320kbps. If they would normally generate these kinds of messages, then I'll just ignore them. But if Icecast or EZStream is generating them, can these emails be turned off completely?

Idea to possibly improve flac?
Hi folks! Due to the fact that more and more users increasingly use MP3 < 320kbps as their source for encoding music, and publish it as flac files, I suggest that something is done in the flac encoder to possible avoid this. My idea is kinda easy/stupid, but might work; Implement a function that use a FFT to check if the input has frequencies > 16kHz, and informs the user t...

flac -- exhaustive model search vs. -A <*>?
...only use this option in combination with custom encoding options meant for archival. === There -- it sounds like "subset" refers to the subset of "flac encodings" that is "streamable" and/or work on all(or most) players... Sorta like 320Kbps being the max rate for "MP3's that conform to the standard"... If that's the case then the highest -l value one can 'portably' use would be 12? FWIW, I've tried 16 & 12 and noticed no difference in exhaustive's execution time. Another "nit" I noti...

Ices generates lots of email warnings
I can't say whether this is either an Ices or a CentovaCast issue, but there are certain programs that play perfectly normally but generate just piles of email about invalid sample rates or frames containing metadata that's not supported. Is there a way to turn these emails off? One of them recently was over four thousand lines long, which really shocked me, and it takes a lot to shock me.

OGG Vorbis jukebox program from PhatNoise (fwd)

The PhatMan allows you to encode your CDs into MP3, WMA or OGG Vorbis formats at bitrates up to 320kbps. It also uses a new way of organizing playlists that makes it much easier to manage a large collection of songs. It has a built in web browser and music search, and the Beta release is available free at www.phatnoise.com. Wesley Negus PhatNoise - ----------------------------------------------- FR...

Yet Another Vorbis Portable
Hullo, folks. As the wiki is *still* down, I'm sending this to the list again. The EZAV EMP-400 is a small flash-based portable player with an OLED screen. I think it's still in development, because I can't find information on its pricing anywhere. The memory capacity isn't visible anywhere either, but the previous device from EZAV had 256 megs of memory.
